Seems like everyone is crazy over the new boards coming out. Anyone gonna keep last years model or older and ride it into the ground?

I'm riding my 07 recoil into the ground. I am going to buy a second board for the boat, and though I started wanting to get a beginner board, I think I'll get a new more advanced board I can play with too.

I've been riding the Obrien Vice since 2005 and will continue riding it this coming season.

I rode my old board (marius) since 06 until the core went squishy, and bought a closeout 09 that I'm planing on rocking till it dies and using the marius for the cable

I still have both of my Old Double Up Lidbergs for backup if my militant breaks.

Been riding Motive boards for quite a few years now. No plans to switch anytime soon.

K Money... I am with you! I love my board so much that I will proly buy a new one this year, just so i will have an extra. They are changing the shape of my board in 2011.

I don't get caught up in new board hype. When I find something I like I ride the pi$$ out of it. My crew tried for years to get me to upgrade and I always fight them on it. I will say though... when I do finally give in, I haven't been disappointed with new boards, I just don't like to jump ship right away.

still on my 08 transcend, I may pick up a new board for riding cable (currently a older CWB sol) if WSR ever opens, but the transcend will be my main boat board for the foreseeable future.

I would totally ride my old boards...if they lasted more than a few weeks! I do hang on to them though, and they do a good job of taking up space in my house. With that said I Got myself an a 2010 Decade and a 2010 Lyman that are just waiting to touch the water!

I'm still on my 07 transcend. I use to be a board whore till I got this one. since then I've loved this and well just don't have the funds for a new one. I've slid it, and rode it hard tho. Rebuilt some of the mouldings in the bottom with fiberglass after messing them up sliding rails. The bottom looks absolutely horrid but still rides great!

Brian - What about the Shane?!

I'll ride most of my boards for 3 seasons and have never purchased a board that wasn't on close-out. Normally you can get a board at the end of a season for $200 and then sell your 2-3 year old board for $100 and it that way I'm only spending $100 every 3 years on boards. If I had the money though I would probably buy 3 new boards every year. Bindings seem that they change for the better (better technology) more frequently than the boards do.

I have been riding my 04 DNA cor Premier since the day it came out. I finally gave in and asked (and got) a 09 Watson for my birthday yesterday. Got the 09 watson bindings too. Coincidental for sure, I just happened to like the entry on them the best. I was on a 1 board and bindings set every 2 years but held on the the premier because I loved it. I figured it was time to get something new and make that my new share board.

I'm still riding my 08 Watson. I'll ride it until it dies and then I'm going to get the Watson classic for 2010. My 08 Lyman is my slider board/beatem up, as is my 08 Covenant.

i would say im sticking with the monarch for next year, until i rode the conspiracy.

dont get me wrong i still love the monarch and think its a fantastic shape, its just that the conspiracy is faster and more bulletproof.

my bro dropped his down some stairs (like 12 or 13) and there was nothing but tiny scratches, no chunks or dents or anything major. now thats one tough cookie.

I would still ride my 98 Murray HC if it didnt get stolen. Best board I have ever rode. New is not always better.

Amen, Shooter. I loved that board. I progressed faster on that board than any other. I would still be riding it as well if the honeycomb core didn't break so much. Fun to see a pic of it.

2006 hand-me-down CWB Marius.... with 2008 CWB Zeus bindings but i bought those new.

won't buy new stuff until i absolutely have to. kinda like a car. ride it till the wheels fall off

Boards are a nightmare!...... I could never justify buying a new one.
It would be a £300 a month habit (just on boards) if i did.

For me its searching on ebay for boards that I think will last, will ride okay and that are a good deal. Then ride them till they die.

Still riding my 08 Absolute with 08 Zeus bindings....been a good board, one corner got messed up a little, but it was fixed and rides smooth still and gives me the pop I need...Don't really see a need to upgrade...

Still riding my 07 Frontier on the cable and my 08 Watson is here to stay for a while I love what I've ridden on that board so far, haven't gotten to ride it much bc I got it clearance during the winter then blew out my knee. I'm gonna ride them till they die.

We have a couple of old Hyperlite boards that have a stretchy rubber hose that goes around the your heal. Overtime the hose has dried out and cracked. Does anyone have any ideas on where to buy some more?

Jeremy,

Wouldn't it be cool to designate one day this summer as a Skurfer Day? We'd all ride the old boards and post pics! That would be fun!

I like to hit a big wake on the old Skurfer. I remember riding one behind my buddies Sea Ray (circa 94) and cutting in hard to that wake and feel that I was getting decent height (for that period of time). I remember trying to show off and tweaking the nose straight down with the aspirations of pulling it back up, well I basically did a nose dive and took a nasty face plant. The first in the long line of face smacks.

My Liquid Force Trip is about 9 years old. It still works fine, and I just can't justify spending that huge cash for a new board, when my Trip still does the job.
Old     (petew)      Join Date: Dec 2008       01-15-2010, 3:55 AM Reply
Bu Coo
9 years!!!! thats good bang per buck!

Depending on how much you use it, sun exposure + nature of use etc your board can lose a bit of pop and response as it becomes more floppy so you will feel the diffrence with a new board. If your just doing recreational riding though its all good.

Have a go on someone else's and see what you think.

Im definatly not saying go buy a new one as i said before I cant afford them but im always suprised at the increase in pop when i get a new deck. (I usually go for older but unused models)

Actually I lie. That K2 Woody is signed and wall mounted now.

I'll be riding my trusty 2005 Liquid Force Substance 138, or whatever I am sent. 09' CWB Transcend for awhile? Something from the Byerly camp? Still working that out. My fall back and trusty steed is the 05 Substance that somehow I haven't yet broken or damaged significantly.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and just to clarify, despite newer (better? I'd dispute that) options I still do prefer that 05 Substance 9 times out of 10. It feels juuuust right.

Speaking of the Greg Nelson autograph, someone needs to post some vid of his riding. I think he was in a section in Monkey on a String, and I don't have the other old ones. That dude had some serious style.

Peter Ward...

I know! I keep wanting to get a new board, but the Trip is so old, with its colors fading into each other, and so many good memories, I can't bring myself to get rid of it. Its like I'm married to my board!

I'm afraid to try a new board. I might like it!
