How reliable are these things as far as not effing up an impeller? Do they allow enough water volume to emulate a lake? I want to heat my oil a bit before an oil change.

Did you buy the fake-a-lake brand (from Overton's for example), or do you use a knock off or homeade version?

I've used my overton's bought fake a lake for 5 years with no problems. I just start with water pressure at about a third, and when boat starts, turn it up to full.

They tell you to keep the rpm below 1200 on a fake-a-lake. I had one and then discoverd its much easier to connect to the v-drive with a hose and this fitting. The fake-a-lake was a pain because my thru-hull was directly above the rear axle and I had to lay on the wet ground to install and remove. Upload

cosmocat

here is what I have installed since 2003 and have not had ANY trouble out of it. Sure a little more than fake a lake but I dont have to get under the boat either. Just attach the hose in the engine compartment and your good to go...
