How do you get the footage off of the camcorder to the computer

Assuming you are looking for an entry level way of doing this...

Firewire - If you have a miniDV or Digital 8 cam. If your computer does not have a firewire card, you can buy one for $20-50.. Don't be fooled and buy a higher priced card since there is really no advantage in spending more money in this case...

Capture Card - If you have an older cam with analog (with RCA plugs) outputs then you need to buy a capture card like the hollywood bridge ($100 or so)
