I emailed Mercruiser Tech support and they said to use Dexron III ATF in my 1995 Ski Ray with Borg Warner 1:1 tranny.

When I glaned in a service manual for my engine, it mentioned to use 10w tractor oil for 1992-1997 DD transmissions, and ATF Dexron III for 1998+ trannies, so Im a little confused now.

you're pry fine with either one. I've always used ATF in my Borg tranny, but have seen motor oil used to cut down on noise. 10w is a little heavy..

Also, keep in mind that both sources you checked are engine builders, not tranny specifically.

I use John Deere Hy-Gard transmission fluid in my 1994 Malibu.
