LED application question...

I'm planning on installing some LEDs on my 87 Barefooter to work as courtesy lights and to find all my crap on the floor when loading up at night. I'm just curious which LED lights I should install...I plan on putting some up under the dash for effect, and then run them down each side of the boat pointing straight down at the floor. I feel the 4/5 LED pods on all the websites posted here should work, but am I going to get a good amount of light if they are pointing straight to the floor against the edges of the boat? I suppose I could install some too in the rear of the boat pointing forward, but I feel like they're going to get busted up eventually.

Does this sound like a good application for the LEDs, especially using the 4/5 pods? How far roughly would you recommend spacing the pods out?

I've been using LED strips, and find they are much easier to work with and give off a better light pattern.
