Hot on the heels of tonight's PPV event, we get this gem of a free card Wednesday the 31st on Spike, leading into the new season of The Ultimate Fighter - Liddell vs. Ortiz. Here is the card:

Kenny Florian vs. Takanori Gomi
Stefan Struve vs. Roy (Big Country) Nelson
Nate Quarry vs. Jorge Rivera
Ross Pearson vs. Dennis Siver

Andre Winner vs. Rafaello Oliveira
Jacob Volkmann vs. Ronys Torres
Rob Emerson vs. Nik Lentz
Caol Uno vs. Gleison Tibau
Yushin Okami vs. Lucio Linhares
Gerald Harris vs. Mario Miranda
Charlie Brenneman vs. Jason High

Florian vs. Gomi - Been a long time coming, but glad to see Gomi in the Octagon finally. In his Pride days, he has looked both on top of the world and terrible. Hopefully he will be taking this seriously and show up in shape and ready to go, because we all know Florian will. The best Gomi vs. KenFlo is an awesome matchup. Florian asked to be Gomi's welcoming committee. Gomi has the big power and decent technique on the feet. Florian has the awesome technique on the feet. Gomi is a better wrestler, but Florian has quite the BJJ edge. Should be a great fight no matter where it goes. I want Florian to win, but could see this going either way. If Gomi wins in domiating fashion, we may see him jump right to fight the Penn/Edgar winner.

Struve vs. Nelson - This is a crack up. Struve is 6'11" and lean. Nelson is 6'0", both tall and wide. Struve is gonna have an incredible reach advantage and hopefully he has been practicing his bottom game, cause BC will likely put him on his back at some point. I really want Struve to put BC away in this one, but fear that big gut will be smothering the giant most of the fight.

Quarry vs. Rivera - Two of the most likeable guys in all of mma. Quarry is hands down one of my favorites. To come back from the back surgery that he has had is just incredible. Quarry loves to bang. Rivera loves to bang. I think they are both rather equal on the feet, with the power edge clearly going to Quarry. I look for Quarry to win this one.

Pearson vs. Siver - Pearson looked amazing in his first fight after winning a TUF season. Siver (IMO) has been unspectacular in his UFC career. I don't see that changing much. Look for Pearson to deliver the KO sometime during this one.

Four very fun fights for free. The Gomi vs. Florian is a ppv main card fight easily.

Then immediately following the fight, the debut of TUF - Liddell vs. Ortiz. Now I know that Ortiz only makes it part way thru the show and has to leave due to some neck problem. (cue up the pornstar wife jokes ) If I remember correctly, he gets replaced by Franklin on the show. Don't hold me to that though. Not sure if Franklin is scheduled to fight Liddell, but that would be a fun one.

Enjoy.

Gomi looked great at the weigh ins. Hope his cardio is up to snuff, cause KenFlo is gonna push it.

Struve vs. BC, is such a funny one. Asked how he prepared for the tall Struve, Nelson replied that he's been picking fights on the NBA basketball courts. hahaha.

Thats hilarious. BC is mediocre at best. Struve may just take this one because he has wayyyy better stand up then BC. If BC can get him down and keep him there then he will probabbly win but makes for a very boring fight. Im just stoked over the heavy weight class in the near future. man I wish Fedor would have signed. Im not really that jazzed about the Penn fight. Ijust don't see Franky Edgar being in Penns league. That being said if Penn takes him to lightly it would be a big mistake given Edgars cardio, once the best fighter is fatigued it's anyones fight. Penn is one of my favorite fighters. Ken Flo Gomi is gonna be a barn burner. Tomorrow night baby

I loved his James Toney comment!

BC is an ADONIS!

How does Big Country keep winning? Everytime he fights I am like.....ok he is gonna get beat down....and then he knocks the fool out. He challenges everything I know to be true about MMA. The James Toney comment was awesome along with the trademark belly rub.

Although I am not a Kenflo fan, he looked dominant behind that jab last night. Ever since he lost to BJ, he has been a man on a mission. I still don't think he stands a chance against Baby J.

I HATE BIG COUNTRY!

There, I said it. I feel much better now.

I hate Big Country also.

Last night I gained a ton of respect for him. He is a legit contender. I actually found him quite entertaining. You can hate everything about, him but he backs it all up.

I'd also like to appoligize to Kenflo. All those nasty remarks I was yelling at you through the TV in the first and second round were just me being over anxious. Your still my favorite fighter and yes... YOU FINISH FIGHTS!!!! I really thought he'd play it safe and go for the decision win over a huge name. It was great to see him go for the kill. Wish some of these other fighters would go for it also (Fitch, GSP cough cough)

Maybe Gomi is just more of a bitch than Alves or Hardy?

Great night of fights. Big Country looked fantastic. Ken Flo is not my favorite fighter. Although I agree he is a great fighter, I just don't like him for some reason. The tuff fights were amazing. Some of these guys were freaking unreal. Gonna be a good season

I am another not fond of Big Country, however the KO was nasty. How about the broken nose in Ultimate fighter with the two friends that fought each other? In the middle of the fight the guy says dude your nose is jacked and seems to want to stop that was funny. Also how about when Chuck made the comment to Tito about tapping on strikes. That was great, lovin it.

Oh I know I think this season is going to be the best.

Is'nt it Florian in UFC Undisputed 2009 that always says "I FINISH FIGHTS"? It was boring, but man his boxing looked good. He really is the best in the division not named Penn. He has all the tools. Like most of the UFC champions he posses the skills on the mat, standing and in the cage. Not sure he can beat BJ, but he can get therough the rest.

Speaking of BJ - You guys see the comments about Faber talking about BJ now?
Old     (lizzyb)      Join Date: Sep 2005       04-02-2010, 8:20 AM Reply
I didn't..... do tell! Please don't tell me he's saying he can beat BJ. As much as I like Uriah.. that's isn't happening.

I really like Florian. I don't even know how it's possible not to. Great fighter, seems like a really nice guy.. what's not to like? I agree, best lightweight that isn't named BJ Penn. I'd like to see those two fight again.

Florian came up with that saying years ago. Back when Sherk, Joe daddy and other top fighters were all letting there fights go to decision.

Ken Flo is an incredible fighter. He blows by everyone but Penn stuffed his game pretty easily. I don't see anyone in the light weight division beating penn. ken Flo would be the only guy to have half a chance.

Faber was just saying him and BJ are buddies and they really want to fight each other. I am with you though, I love Faber, but BJ is unreal. Now that is cardio is dialed in, he is deadly. I would like to see GSP be more aggressive and willing to trade like BJ or Anderson. There are a ton of people saying GSP is not the best Pound for Pound because he has just gotten to be such an incredible wrestler.

This weekend with Anderson and BJ on the line should really cement their careers. Not that the competition is that amazing, but at least they should be tested by true contendners. Not like a Brock or Haqrdy that had a questionable road to the top. I don't see either guys losing either way.

The fact that GSP does exactly what he needs to do to win shouldn't take anything away from how great a fighter he is. He's so dominate on the ground, such a great wrestler.. why would he bother standing up with someone if he doesn't have to? To impress fans that are bored with how technically superior he is? That's just ridiculous. Those people that don't think GSP is an amazing fighter need to watch boxing if they'd prefer to see two individuals stand up and bang for 25 minutes.

The whole "best pound for pound fighter" is such a non-win conversation to have. It's way too subjective. I could easily say Penn, Silva or GSP are the best three in all of MMA.. but I really wouldn't know where to rank any of the three.. because they're all special in their own way.

Ahh.. Faber.. I like him a lot.. but he really doesn't need to fight BJ. No reason to embarrass himself like that.

Faber has his hands full with Aldo I think ! That should be a good fight but I think the Cerrone/Henderson fight will be better. Still not sure if I want to pony up the cash for it though.

That might be a good one to go watch at Po Boy's in Folsom ?

Penn would demolish Faber. I love Faber he is just not in the same league as Penn. Lizzy, love your anaylsis pretty much right on.

Big UFC this weekend - Does Maia and Edger even have a chance? Does Anderson make Maia look like Forrest Griffin? Does anybody still care about Matt Hughes or another Gracie(their recent performances have been bad)?

I've heard Maia has really impressive BJJ... but beyond that, I really don't know much about him. I really don't know anything about Frankie Edgar. Of course, I don't believe either has a chance in hell of taking the belts.

I like Matt Hughes.. I'll always be interested in seeing him fight.

On a side note, there really should be a different thread for TUF. Dave??

So a really strange nighht of fights. BJ losing to Frankie Edgar. Silva looking really weird then almost getting clipped by Maya. Was it just me or was it strange? I honestly believe if Silva tries moving down to 170 GSP will tool him.

Nobody that watched the fights with me thought BJ lost . But I guess that is what happens when you let it go to a decision ? Silva looked good for 2 then lost a lot of respect I think after that. It was funny and all at first, But it got over the top quick. Then it looked like he just ran the rest of the fight

And what was up with Gracie making it look like Hughes could still fight...LOL

I think silva will win against GSP.

I just think seriously that he gets bored at times....

Usually when someone rushes him like Maia did at the end he gets out of the way, but it didnt really work like that last night. Usually he gets in a nice solid blow that finishes it and he was DANG close those couple punches that ruined maia's face. That said, he needs to fight more. He barely fights and sometimes its not that convincing....

but he ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS will win the judges score because he just doesnt get hit.

I didn't get to see the PPV.. but I can still hardly believe I read that BJ lost. WOW.

The judges gave the victory to Edgar by a large and clear margine. I really have to see this.

I read a bit about Silva and Dana White's reaction. Dana might be a d-bag at times, but I like that he stood up to Silva and publicly called him out on the bad behavior.
