rope lenth and boat speed

what speed to most people ride and what lenth do most people have the rope

im usually at around 20mph....unless my girlfriend is driving, then its 10, 30, 16, 26 :|

75ft and 21.7mph.

85 and 25 or around there. really it depends on what boat

For Beginnner I recommend 16-18 mph. Watch there board to make sure it doesnt cover with wash. Lenght of Rope 65ft.

For Intermediate. 19-22. Depending on the Boat. If your rider is clearing the wake then 20-22 at 65-70ft. Just watch him to see if he or she need more help to clear (speed).

To the beginner I recommend 65ft of rope until he/she can clear the wake from both sides. Then I would let it out 5ft. You might have to up the speed 1 mph a little at a time.

Intermediate riders I recommend 70ft+. So at this point the driver really has to watch the rider. To fast and the rider is out of control on the landing. To Slow and the rider is hitting the back of the wake. You really need to talk with the rider at that time.

Dont assume anything. Every boat throws a different wake and every boats propeller cavitates the water differently. Thus changing a wake.

David and Calder- that length and speed that jason listed is what pros usually ride around i believe and jason is pretty damn good from what ive heard

80 feet at 24 mph (a little faster if there are more bodies in the boat)

SanTE with stock ballast, 600 lbs of lead and usually 3-4 people in the boat

Remember many of these boats are not calibrated with GPS, so they can have different readings even though they are traveling at the same speed.

Wes, with how many people you had out on Sunday 85 feet and 24.2 would have been PERFECT!

my pp is about .6 mph slow according to gps so i have it set at 23.5 usually

I go at 80' and 24 mph and Im not that good its just what feels good. Used to go 75' at 23mph.

80' at 22mph

My wife is kind of like Doug P's GF. She slams the throttle all the way down so initially I'm riding at 70' at about 40mph. Then when the PP quits freakin' out and settles in it's 22.5 mph. I've learned the hard way. No point in arguing with a woman about her lack of boat driving skills.

70' at 23mph. I would ride farther but it makes it to hard on the toeside. I can't always land w2w if I am at 75'.

Here are some rules of thumb to determine speed and line. First find the speed. Ride as fast as you feel comfortable and you are getting a clean non-foamy wake. Then set the rope length to the longest length where the wake is still clean and you can clear it HS and TS.

My youngest son rides 19-20MPH with minimal balast and a 60-65' line. When we sack the boat up, we will pull between 21-22MPH with a 70-80' line depending on rider preference.

If you don't have perfect pass, you want the rider to be hitting the "clean" wake just before the wake starts to roll over a few feet behind them.

For example, I had a 94 Searay with fat sacs that rode well w/ 65 - 70 foot ropes at around 20-21 mph. We found the speed by looking at the wake and seeing what was maximum for the rider at that length. We would try 75 -80 feet, but the wake just washed out and wouldn't get clean.

Now we ride a 07 Wakesetter VLX at 85 feet and 23.2-.8 mph. The wake is meaty.

Really, though, all this information will be boat specific. I ride at 22 mph behind most boats, but I ride a longer line length behind a VLX opposed to our X1 since the tow point is significantly farther forward.
