Anyone know whats goin on with the Wolf creek dam? Heard the dam was failing? We were supposed to come down there this year and wondering if we should.

There will still be a lot of water there. I think that the surface area will be about 1/4 less than normal. The main issue will be how to launch a boat. 90% of the ramps will be out of the water. Hopefully they will take advantage of the winter pool and extend those ramps before spring. Its not my home lake, but we usually have an INT event there at burnside. I doubt that there will be any water at that location, so we are looking for another place. Our INT coordinator has been working on this.

23ft below normal pool for summer, wow. look out dale hollow, your about to be invaded. it will be interesting to see what scavenger hunters find with the new exsposure of depths not usually seen.

I live on cumberland, look at my profile, i can hit it with a rock. The story from a buddy of mine that works for the contracting division at the corp is they will extend the ramps. It is not failing, in fact the status has not changed in over 20 yrs but w/ all the bad plublicity the corp got from katrina they decided to reevaluate their standards. Lake cumberland and wolf creek damn are only the first on a long list. Chance are if you boat on a lake w/ a damn over 25 yrs old it will come to you soon enough. As of now it will be about 40ft below summer pool reducing it by 1/3. Remember it is the largest man made lake east of the mississippi. This winter it is believed they will do another 20 ft and it will stay at that level for aprox 5 yrs. Hopefully this will drive off some of the powerboats to Dale Hollow so it will be better for wakeboarding. Well at least I can dream.

I spoke to Beaver Creek Marina yesterday and they are extending their ramp to accomodate the drop in water level. We are going to rent a houseboat the last week in August. Think the change to the lake level will prompt the marinas to reduce their rental prices a bit??? I can hope, can't I.

Hey Sup. Don't send those powerboats down here. We are already too crowded.

I don't think I would want to own Lake Cumberland Marine this year. Powerboat sales will surely be down. We don't have many on Rough and I hope it stays that way.

#1 powerboat sales in the world, 1 in 100 may go to this lake, the newest office is in dubai, i don't think randy cares if the lake goes down

Sup. That does not look too bad. In reality the lake will still be awesome (compared to other lakes) at 43 ft below summer pool. The problem will be getting access to the water.

Let me get this straight. You live on the lake, drive a hummer, and own a supra. What am I doing wrong?

Rob,
The ramp at Nicks Boat Dock is called Axtel Boat ramp, but I think the marina has always been Nicks. I have only been going there since late 80's though.

Your right. My dad had an old houseboat at that dock back in the mid 70's. The rangers caught me diving off that bridge that runs over it. I don't recommend diving that bridge it is shallow there.

Another Rough River guy here, or at least I was there every summer weekend until I was 18. My parents still have their place on Tools (sp?) Creek on the North Fork. I still love that lake and consider it my home lake even though I now live on a lake in NC.

Rob, if you want a good place to jump, the cliffs in Cave Creek is a great spot.

On the upside, I guess debris won't be such a problem since the lake won't come up to summer pond and float what's collected on the shoreline back in.
That lake is big and as long as there is good access, it'll do fine. Some coves just might be dry/more shallow.

You guys better watch your depth gauges down there.

Kirk,
We spend a lot of time floating back in tools creek. Its a great place to chill. Most of our riding is right past the bridge there on North Fork. I used to jump off the cliffs back in tools, but not any more.

Mike, I rode in the exact same spot. First backroll I ever landed was right next to the no wake zone just before the island back in 95. Maybe I'll get back there this summer. I really miss that lake.

Hope you can make it back this summer. There is a lot of good riding going on at Rough now days. We had 3 National champions and 1 runner-up this year at INT US Championships.

Mike. Is it as crowded on the weekends as it use to be?

Rob,
Yea it does get a little crazy on the weekends. We get out early and then ride again late. Last year was not bad at all because of gas prices. The light weeks are always the ones right after a holiday weekend.

Your property value may take a hit... anyways it sucks they let about our damn stay open for a while and we will have very low water to start the season if we don't get a lot more snow or rain...
