What do you think of Parks new contest?
Old     (wakeguru)      Join Date: Feb 2003       05-04-2004, 6:14 AM Reply
It's different, but I'm sure it's format will create some controversy somehow, somewhere with someone. Any one of the next four days looks good weather-wise though.
Oh, I think I heard the phone ring! Ah, dam - false alarm.

I like it!

I was suprised to see no CWB riders. Zane rides for Mastercraft with Parks. Also, Gator is the man, but no Gonzales? Shaun Murray and Gerry Nunn were also left off the list. You would think, at the very least, he would at least put all of his fellow Hyperlite team riders on the list. I understand Ruck and Sharpe are good, but they don't seem to do anything amazing off the double up compared to some other guys I mentioned. It must be politics.
Old     (kristian)      Join Date: Nov 2002       05-04-2004, 8:03 AM Reply
Ruck has that cool indy mody dick. Sharpe has some tech inverts, OHH 313, thats tough. I'll even appreciate that.
Looking foward to what Harris and Gator will throw, hopefully some new spins.
Anyways we have no idea what these guys have been working on lately.
This is a smaller event it probably more these riders are very good and available, others were probably off doing something else.
Anycase, I think its going to be a good event.

I am just suprised that I am not on the invite list.

brian ross sharpe does some of the best stuff of the double up watch metronome. Also Maybe parks talked to all the guys but some had conflicting schedules i mean these guys are pretty busy and this is the only event that is pro only that is put on by a top pro and its not a pro tour stop. I would bet that parks did talk to other guys and they may have not been able to make it or maybe they didnt want to do it.

Also Kristian you said Sharpe does an ohh 313 where di you see that ive never seen him do a 313 Let me know thanks

Sounds like ripping good fun to me.

I think it's funny how the guy that rules double-ups would put together a double-up contest.
Old     (jarrod)      Join Date: May 2003       05-04-2004, 10:08 AM Reply
Yeah....how do you compete against the guy that does a double back with a 360 off the double up.
Old     (tahoe)      Join Date: Mar 2002       05-04-2004, 10:27 AM Reply
I'm betting Vandall out does Parks (or anybody) in biggest air.

The D-Up contest could turn out to be a cool format, as this could be set-up better for the spectators, especially if you had a slider near the shore.
Old     (wakeworld)      Join Date: Jan 1997       05-04-2004, 10:33 AM Reply
It's my understanding that there will be no spectators invited.
Old     (kristian)      Join Date: Nov 2002       05-04-2004, 10:37 AM Reply
Kevin: Sharpe does the OHH 313 in Hype, he also did it at the Kelowna stop a couple years ago.
Old     (dakid)      Join Date: Feb 2001       05-04-2004, 10:40 AM Reply
I'm sure Harris will go bigger. But, it all comes down to what tricks can the rider do while goin' that big? Even if Parks goes half the height, he'll have a big chance of winning if he pulls off the switch double roll w/ a 360.
Old     (wakeguru)      Join Date: Feb 2003       05-04-2004, 10:52 AM Reply
This reminds me of the Red Bull depth charge. It definitely has the potential to grow into something spectator-worthy though, unlike the depth charge publicity stunt.

I would like to see someone throw a 1080 that would be badass!!!
Old    maverick_gear            05-04-2004, 11:53 AM Reply
guaranteed randall takes the whole damn thing. thats my opinion he is the king of the dub up, parks is probably putting this whole thing on just so him and the vandall can show how far behind everyone else really is. the reason this thing is gonna be cool is because its all under wraps and its gonna be a freeride set with a few select homies who are going to just kill it...

Hey Dave, any idea when we're going to hear the results?

Mav, I seriously doubt that's the true motive for the contest.

We'll be there, so we'll post the results as soon as they're official.

Just love the contest that like Red Bull that a half dozen industry folks go to, watches it, pats everyone on the back for doing a good job and then everyone with the cash to buy the products just reads about it. I have not been looking, but, is there a video of the Red Bull deal that the public has seen or was it just a clip or two? I mean if the public does not see it, it basically turns into the whole "if a tree falls in the woods does it make sound" discussion. If you don't get to see it, it really does not matter right?

Rod, there is a video of the red bull depth charge challange if thats what you are looking for, but its not a video i would suggest you pay money for

Finally a contest that pushes the sport! Is anyone gonna be filming it? That would make a sick vid.
Old     (jonb)      Join Date: Oct 2003       05-04-2004, 1:11 PM Reply
david we better see some video footage on here.
Old     (wakeguru)      Join Date: Feb 2003       05-04-2004, 1:19 PM Reply
Rod, you can pick up the depth charge vid for $30, but you get $5 off if you purchase two cases of Red Bull.

Let's crash this thing. We'll ride right through their smooth on two skis wearing jean shorts with no vest behind my jon boat.

I already have a probability matrix worked out of where it will be held and scouts have been deployed.

Well I don't think they will be attempting 1080's for the 1080 contest because d-ups aren't allowed but I like the contest. Hopefully we'll be able to see some pics or vids of it.
Old     (wakeworld)      Join Date: Jan 1997       05-04-2004, 2:45 PM Reply
What do you mean double ups aren't allowed? I would think they would definitely be throwing in some 1080's. The only problem is whether or not we'll get the video of it. I'm assuming that Red Bull has plans for the footage since they're footing the bill for this thing, so those plans might not include putting footage up on WakeWorld.

Remember, not only do they have to hit a 1080, but we need to get the video of it as well.
Old    buttacup            05-04-2004, 5:57 PM Reply
Oohhh oops, I stand corrected , sorry. Well in that case, I guess someone is motivated to win that $2160. Maybe RedBull or whoever is filming will be kind enough to lend you the footage for a small price?

I would like to see Parks do something else besides his signature move off the double up.
Old     (lfxstar)      Join Date: Jul 2001       05-04-2004, 6:40 PM Reply
the true motive for this contest is the 1080, my bet is that each pro will put down one of their best moves off the d-up and then just try 1080's, if the top 15 pros are trying 1080's for 4 days strait, one will land it...guaranteed

Hopefully we'll see something on http://www.reevolution.tv/ since Red Bull played a part in it.

I believe that Shane and all the guys are helping film it. I was told today that it will be a part of that re: evolution stuff.
So hopefully it will get good air time.

It was a fun day, really chill and relaxed, Parks picked a really good bunch of guys who all stepped up to the plate. It wasnt that Parks didnt invite anyone that he didnt like, to my knowledge he gets along with everyone. He couldnt invite everyone, as it is it took from 10:30 till 4ish for 12 riders. He said at the beginning that every year it will keep getting bigger.

Props to whoever helped him put it on! All the riders vote on the results at the party tomorrow night.

The event was off the hook! Probably the best event I have ever had the opportunity to shoot. Media and athletes were contacted yesterday morning early. There was absolutely not a stitch of wind. Perfect conditions, some of wakeboardings best athletes, $10,000 in prize money and a lot of testosterone provided quite the show. I'm sure you all will have the opportunity to see some footage. I have captured digital video as well and am planning on releasing at least one of each riders DU's right here on WakeWorld. Stay tuned!

solo - looking forward to the video!

So the $1080 question... did anyone land one?

Old     (wakeworld)      Join Date: Jan 1997       05-07-2004, 12:39 PM Reply
Although there were some attempts, there were no 1080's landed as far as I know. Darin tried a triple front, but didn't land it.

Here are the pics Steve took: http://www.wakeworld.com/news/2004/parksdup1.asp

I have some footage of the triple attempt by Darin. I will post it when ready.

Holy freakin cow! A triple front?! That must have been an AWESOME contest! What else was tried/landed?
Old     (solo)      Join Date: Oct 2001       05-08-2004, 8:02 AM Reply
A bunch of failed 1080's. Some knarley crashed. I got a little drunk last night and forgot my camera. Josh Sanders got Best trick with a mute 900. Chad Sharpe won biggest air, and Gator Lutgert got worst crash.
