to screen or not to screen ?

I've had a Batt Shack 160amp alt installed since beginning of last season. No issues. After the Batt Shack saga came to light I planned on correcting the issue. I pulled the stock 55 amp alt that came in my MC to look at it and noticed theres no screens on it. Now I'm really confused. Is this the brushless vs non brushless-screened vs. no screens situation. Just not sure which way to go with this one

Screens are not necessary if it is a brushless alternator, since the brushes are what cause the sparks that require arresting. My factory alt has no screens either, it's simply a brushless one. Should be fine.

I would find out if it is brushless or not. Could be a major hazard if it has brushes and no screen.

thanks for the reply. I'll call the Shack and ask them. They're nice guys but I get more confused after talking to them then I was before I called.

Let me guess, they thought your boat was a diesel?
