I came across this article today and thought it was very interesting. Im trying to sell my board and a couple pair of bindings so i searched to see how much ebay and paypal really take. I was disappointed with the result. I know it is a fast way to get rid of what you have but i will think twice before putting my stuff up for sale now. Feel free to share how you get rid of your old stuff as well, i know wakeworld is full of savvy sellers and buyers.

PayPal is one of the most scumbag companies out there. I regret dealing with them in the past.

I usually put stuff on craigslist, classifieds, or even Facebook before I resort to Ebay. Usually if stuff doesn't sell anywhere else, I don't mind paying the small fee to finally sell it, I have never had an item not sell on Ebay. However, Ebay is more of a last resort for me.

no clue about ebay, but i know PP fees went up to 3.5% in january.
i have a small online business that i soley use PP for. without it i couldnt do business so it is a necessary evil. at least for now.

I'm pretty sure that cc companies charge businesses between 3-5% on transactions so for PP to do this it is really not that far off.

I had an experience with PP. Sold a microwave which I used for my dorm and just didn't need anymore. Long story short, the buyer got damaged goods after not purchasing shipping insurance....I used bubble wrap and egg cartons to secure the item, but it still was damaged. I had pictures to prove working order and how I packed it. Even with a disclaimer to say purchase the post office insurance PP made me refund the money, and didn't make the buyer ship the item back. Even though I agreed to pay the return shipping.

Something about that whole transaction just was a big red flag, and I still to this day refuse to sell on ebay. CL is free and you don't have to ship anything.

I really don't think PP does a lot of investigation into their refund claims they just issue a refund as soon as they get a call. Then you owe paypal the money

I wish I could sell my wakeboard stuff on CL, but not many people go looking for wakeboards here in CT...I guess the lesson is buy with paypal but dont sell through it haha
