New video camera?

OK. For better or worse I'm the videographer for a friends cousins wedding. I have shot video for quite a few weddings, and completed the editing for quite a few weddings (not always shot and edited the same wedding) for another company. This will be the first one for me to do everything on with my own equipment.
I have been reading alot on dvinfo forums which has helped.
I can spend $1000 on a new camera. What do I get and where from!

Thanks Joe. Do you recomend this camera because you have one, have used one or read about online?
I also failed to mention that I think I would need a hot shoe and would like a manual focus ring. I'm also looking for something at least desent in low light.

You won't find all that for a thousand dollars. the Panasonic AG-DVC30 handles lowlight good but it's $1699 with a discount code at B&H. or you could try to find a used VX2100

I notice you video guys are always pimping the Panasonic stuff. Is it the best that video has to offer right now?

I shoot on Sony but yes IMO Panasonic gives you more bang for the buck on their lower end and their upper tier cams simply blow everything else away. The new HVC-200 looks like everything you could possibly want in a camera. (If only I could afford it)

Ok. I've done about 12 hours of reasearch now. I am actually leaning towards the Panasonic AG-DVC30! I know it's alot more than I was wanting to spend(I always do this). Now at that price I'm getting close to the Canon GL2.....What do you guys think around the price range of the DVC-30??? But then I'm still gonna want a light and a wide angle lense..........heeeeelp. I need somewhere relatively close to here so I can get my hands on these.

Why not used GL1 or Panasonic.

I'm not opposed to used. It does scare me to get something electronic, that expensive, used. I don't really know where to look. I guess e-bay?

My friend & I both bought cameras off ebay for a tv show we were doing. He got a GL1 and I picked up a Panasonic AG-dvp10. Both worked flawlessly and were 3ccd cammeras. I don't think the GL1 is too old tech. You wont get as many buttons or tricks as the GL2 but you would save some $$. Also the XL1's have interchangable lenses if that interests you and look to be in the $1500 range on ebay.

We also had bought some other SVHS cameras and those didn't work out so well. So it is scary for sure.

Looks like I've narrowed it down to two.
I'm leaning more towards the Canon GL2 now.which I can get for $1750 after rebate.

I love my Canon XL1s
I bought it just before they came out with the XL2.....the biggest diff is the view finder
wish I had the lcd screen
but, I added a 7" lcd tv that mounts to the shoe, and swivels anywhich way
I can also use it on the dash, when the camera is on the tower.........
