This is a customer's boat that I'm working on. I noticed the seats don't quite sit down like they're supposed to. I asked the owner, who just bought the boat, and he dug around and said he saw a few other boats just like this. Doesn't seem right to me, but is there any way to fix this? The pics show a huge gap in both seats. That's on the top of the back part, and the middle of the lower part of the seat. Both sides are exactly the same.

Yikes! I've never seen another X-Stars seats look like that. I know mine don't. Those seats are pretty dirty (2nd and 3rd pic, cooler filler cushion) for a brand new boat. It looks like maybe something with the hinges. Will the seats flex to sit flush if someone is sitting on them?

Maybe the seats are out of an x-2 or 45 and they accidentally got put on the x-star. I've never been in one where they were off like that. Always tight fitting.

I agree with Justin. They look like they are the wrong size and maybe should of been on a different model boat. The hindge doesn't appear to have anything to do with it. Even if the hindge was moved it still would sit right. Maybe that is what you should do to one of them. Unscrew the hindge to one of the seats and see if the cushion sits flat like it shoud with the hindge.

That is a warranty issue. The MC dealer I used to work at had about 10 boats with this same issue. Contact MC and they will ship out new seats and the new hardware that is needed.

Why was this not caught during the final inspection at mastercraft and the dealer delivery inspection?

maybe the hinges are screwed on backwards, or in the wrong place. flip them around and see what happens

The boat is an 04 model. It's dirty because it was just bought from a dealer in GA and I think it was a repo or some sort of deal like that. The new owner bought it and for the moment doesn't have a place to keep it out of the weather, other than my shop or a boat storage facility that it's about to go to. I'll be cleaned soon.

Thanks for the replies on the seats.

"Maybe the seats are out of an x-2"

Not an X-2 - different design.

misfits is right... it's a warranty issue. The plastic base of those bow seats have warped. It happened to my '04 also. They had some sort of issue with the plastic warping for whatever reason (heat under cover?).

It wasn't caught at final inspection because they were normal when they left the factory. They warp over time.

With this being an 04, will it still be warrantied?

I don't recall for sure when the current x2 was introduced but I think it was a year or two after 2004. Back then x star was the only pickle fork in the line. looks like a hinge problem or something.

the x 2 seat is a two piece seat. the x star is one complete seat

the current x-2 came out in 2006. i had a 05 x-2 which was called the x-star and now is called the x-1. i doubt MC will cover my 04 x-star warping if thats what it is. my upholstery was just replaced in 1/3 of the boat and they wouldnt cover that. i heard last fall from my dealer that MC wasnt even covering an upholstery issue on an 05....

Yes, the seats will be covered under warranty. Like I said before, this IS a warranty and MC will pay for the repairs and parts. As Alt said above, the plastic warped on the seat backs and over time the points where the mounts are on the seatback have moved. The new seats have metal "L" brackets that run almost the length of the back to support the seat better. If the boat is a 03 or 04 it will be covered. MC fixed the issue when the 05's came out.

I had to replace a customers right bow seat in his xstar under warranty and when I put the new seat on it did not fit right and wouldnt close completly. Turned out the vinyl was way too tight. So that may be your problem. I cant really tell with those pics.

I'm not sure they fixed the issue in 05, I just checked my 08 out and it's worse than the pics from above.
