I used Final Cut for the editing and did the finish and effects on Avid DS. Oh, and the camera is a Sony PMW-EX1.

I have only had the EX1 for a few months and I love it! However if I were still in the market for a camera I would go with the EX3.

The whole tapeless workflow can be a pain at first but I think I have a grasp on it. Now I just need to figure out how I am gonna archive 70ish gigs worth of media!!

thats easily one of the best short videos I've seen online. great song, awesome editing, I like the end with the picture frame, I liked the sequence, one thing though is it'd be cool if you timed the sequence shots to the gun shots, but I liked the tuber/jetskier gun shots as well. nice vid.

Depends on what you get Matt. Mine (canon HG10), cost 750 with some accessories off of ebay. Don't know about others. If you're filming wakeboarding though, you want one where you can turn off the autofocus... Wish I had realized that before. Makes tube shots a pain in the arse.

Gar. Well then, I guess had I waited 5 months to get my camera, I would have gotten it cheaper... Blah.

That 2 hour battery that it comes with is insane on life. Or maybe I just have an uber batter, because unless I use the screen, I can film all day long and only run down half of the battery.

Did you go to school to learn how to edit like that?

I have been playing with Pinnacle Studio 12 and use a Sony HDR-SR10 but I would never come close to the quality of your vids.

Do you use a tripod in the boat?

John: Be careful. That combo sounds like one from a non legit dealer....they sell you a bunch of accessories you don't need, and you end up paying full price anyway after all is said and done, otherwise they don't ship the camera. The canon HG10 is great though, I have one as well and I'm very pleased with it.

Very nice. I picked up an EX1 about 6 weeks ago and haven't had a chance to shoot any wakeboarding with it yet but based on the footage I have shot and your piece I can see it will not disappoint.

The Sony EX1 features 3 chip - 1/2" inch CMOS imagers coupled to a full manual Fujinon lens. It records full raster 1980X1020 to a special XDCam codec tweaked by the CinaAlta guys (made the cams for Star Wars) and the IQ is just breathtaking.

It offers both over and undercranking modes as well as time lapse/slow shutter, features I can see Mike put to good use.

I got mine from a "non legit" dealer on Ebay, got a bunch of extra stuff, and still paid around 450 dollars less than what best buy and the rest of the major electronics stores were asking for at the time.

If I can afford it, next year I'm going to pick up another HD cam, so that I can film from two different angles at the same time, so I may look into this EX1, since it's video quality is damn near perfect.

I got a Canon HG10 not long after it was released. I love the camera but I'm scared to bring it out on the boat.
And if you are looking to buy one, go to butterflyphoto dot com, they have great prices and the best customer service I've ever seen. I have bought 3 cameras from them and they are a legit Canon dealer.

The only thing that bugged me about this video was the fact that parts of tricks were skipped over, which, while awesome that it syncs up with the music, I like seeing the ENTIRE trick, but that's just me and I'm slightly insane.

How's Final Cut? Right now I'm trying to learn the ins and outs of After Effects and using it in tandem with Sony Vegas is not the most efficient/nor effective way of doing things, but I'm curious if you've ever worked with either of those programs.

Final Cut is definitely the way to go for editing. It is very powerful and is easy to learn. Although I didn't use after effects for anything it is a great program that compliments Final Cut (or any other editing software) very well. There is nothing I did in this video that couldn't be done in After Effects.
