Heavier Always Better When it Comes to Weighting?

There are quite a few different weights available when it comes to making the decision on what to put in the compartments of a v-drive and I was wondering what a good guage was to determine what's best for your particular needs. I've also seen somebody mention a 60/40 ration on how you should weight the boat from rear to front. So if I put 500lbs in the rear, I should put about 333lbs up front?

Just as a base place to start I'd go with a 250 v-drive sac (short and fat) on each side of the motor and a 500 up in the nose or ski locker of the boat. Should get you pretty ball park, then you can work from there with some lead or some smaller sacs. BTW weight ratings on sacs is deceiving (can't spell today). Sacs generally only hold as much as the space they are put in will allow. People talk about putting 750 sacs in V-drive compartments, but realistically rarely get more than 500 into the sacs depending on the boat.

Good point Evan.....and to further expain the reasoning is, that's the size they are made in. It's cheaper to buy off the shelve sizes than custom order. I have 750's in my lockers ($140/per) or I could have had custom sacs made for about $220/ per
