Hi Everyone,

Looking to replace the steering cable in our 93-97 hull sport nautique.

We have identified it as a teleflex rack type system. I am sure others must have replaced these in the past.. Anyone know what part/modle I should be looking for?

Also if anyone has any advise/tips on the job of removing and replacing - please let me know.

Cheers

Jamie

As for removal / replacing, it should be pretty straight forward. Remove the back access panel and you should see hwere it connects to the rudder. biggest thing will be routing the new cable, I would probably try to attach it to the old and use the old cable to pull it through. Then you will have to adjust it but that shouldnt be hard.

If you go to Planetnautique.com there are alots of write ups over there about them. I replacement mine last year. If you are a member of planetnautique and order from whitelakemarine(nautiqueparts.com) you will get a 10% discount, talk to david there, he is an awesome guy.

The cable length is stamped on the jacket near one end. The length is in inches so divide by 12 to order in feet. Also please check out the package deals. Many times you can order a cable / helm package for the same money or even less than a single cable. Don't ask why, I don't know why : ) But the fact is that helms wear out just like cables. The more stiff your old cable gets, the more wear your helm is enduring. You don't have to change it, I just thought Id share some info.
Good luck.
