If you only had 25,000 to spend on a boat what would you get, and why?

I'm thinking a 2003ish SAN 210.

if you can find one that is worth owning for 25k, let me know. I just passed on a great condition 03 with 350 hours, and the guy got 33.5 for it. He had a list of interested parties. A guy on Planet Nautique is selling his 03 with over 600 hours for 35k.

05ish Sanger V215. IMO a much better boat than the older SAN or 205V's

LOL, good luck finding anything made this century from Correct Craft for 25k that's not a direct drive.

I was in this exact market a couple months ago. Excluding the Nautiques, pretty much all the other manufacturers could be found for 25k or less in the very early 2000's models here are there. I ended up wanting to spend closer to 20k with a 25k max, and found my 01 Sunsetter VLX w/ the LS1 for 20k even. Also had a couple 03 Wakesetters I could have gotten for 23kish (lot more hours though, and fewer options). X-stars are hard to find for that price unless they are the very early models. Early Tiges are a bit easier to find in that budget, as well as some Centurions.

MC Early 00's Xstars/X2's/205V's
Malibu VLX's are a great option

I know it's true, but it's crazy what people ask and get for those older Nautie's

I don't know where u are but i could link several craigslist ads for both x stars and 210s for 25 and under. I cant totally vouch for the condition but some of them look pretty nice. And im in cali where though we have a lot of boats, they are expensive.

year 2000 model 210 advertised in San Francisco Craigslist boat section that looks real nice, less than your desired purchase price.

I'm admittedly bias, but the old-hull SANTE is like the classic car of wake. You don't need a lot of weight to get a great wake and it has great build quality without all the unnecessary crap for 50k+ less than the 2012.

You wont get a 03 for 25K, but I think they are the best value out there for 31K-35K

02 ups are more expensive due to larger interior and deeper floor

Whatever your budget, I'd suggest saving at least $2000 for upgrades and repairs.

I've got a 95' Super Sport (same as a Super Air) - tower ballast stereo prop 2axle trailer - you would essentially have the same boat for 8k under budget which could buy you a wrap and have the boat look like new/how you want.

make sure you ask if they were used in salt water!

That right there is a deal! If I wasnt fixed on finding myself a classic nautique 2001 Id be all over that.

Good luck getting 02 or newer x star or SANTE at 25k. People are holding onto these boats or selling them for much more. I have an 02 I would not let go less than 27500. Looks like some decent 2000.
Old     (ironj32)      Join Date: Jan 2007       08-24-2011, 6:48 AM Reply
2000-2002 XStar or an old SAN210. Not only do they have one of the best wakes ever made, they shouldn't depreciate all that much, compared to other boats out there (assuming you take care of it).
Old     (ironj32)      Join Date: Jan 2007       08-24-2011, 6:50 AM Reply
I sold my 2000 XStar with 1120 hours on it this past spring for $24,500. The weather had been crappy all season too...had I waited a few more weeks I think I could have gotten about $26/$26500 out of it.

I would look into a Supra 21V. Of course I am going to be bias, but I got mine last year for $26k and have loved it. I think it has a great wake, nice layout and plenty of storage.
Old     (polarbill)      Join Date: Jun 2003       08-24-2011, 8:34 AM Reply
I am with Darren. The Sanger V215 can throw an awesome wake, surf better, ride in rough water better, have more interior room, more storage, etc... all for the same price as an older SAN or 205v. That being said early 2000's SAN, 205V or VLX for 25k are all awesome choices though.

As it has been said an 03 for that is stretching it but an 00-02 or a Super sport that has been modified is very doable.

Do not be shy of hours on a Nautique unless it's over maybe 800, and even then I wouldn't hesitate after a good inspection.

2000-2003 Malibu vlx. Great boat. Try to find one with the titan tower. The swoop tower didn't compare.

Cali has some of the cheapest boats in the nation. If the travel and shipping cost wasnt so much that's where I would have bought a boat.

I totally disagree. The Skylon Swoop looks better, and mine is very solid. I have been very happy with my Swoop.

As much as I like my old school x star I wish I had looked harder at CC. My buddies super takes chop better than my x star. Would say I like the layout and vinyl in my x star better and my wake is a bit more forgiving more of a ramp.

Bought my 2000 SAN for 21k at the beginning of the season. I had to throw another $2k to fix some things. However, something to keep in mind, you really need little if any ballast to wakeboard behind this boat, and that will save you a lot on gas. I can get a really good wakeboarding wake with nothing more than 80 lbs in the bow, a driver, and a cooler full of drinks. I can board all day long and still have gas left over at the end of the day.

Surf wake is good, but there are better out there.

I'm glad you've had good luck with your swoop, but there is a reason they went away from it

Well of you decide an older supersport (same hull as a SAN) could be an option let me know - ours is for sale and is ready to go out of the box (ballast/wake wise).... food for thought

not really true. All Wakesetter VLX's have the same hull through 2004. Pre sunsetter vlx's had this hull as well. 2001 sunsetter vlx went to a diamond hull. I think they may have quit calling it a sunsetter in 2002 and started calling it a sunscape or something like that.

And when they introduced the vride in 2005...it too had the wakesetter vlx hull.

forgot about that. Up through 07 or 08 right and then the ride series went to the 05-08 vlx hull or 04-07 lsv hull?

05-08 vride = sv23 ("old vlx") hull

In 09 they have ride 21 (05-08 vlx hull) and now ride 23 (04-07 lsv hull).

I was less biased on a certain brand of boat when shopping in that range! I'm looking at a 5 year plan before buying again, so something "timeless" was a factor! I wasn't too concerned with bling at this point! Something with low hours, clean, and well maintained! I found a 2003 Sanger v230 with under 200 hours, relatively clean, good maintenance record, but had a couple issues...Nothing I couldn't overcome...Oil pressure gauge was not working, got a new gauge cluster, navi light wasn't working (bulb), utility light not working (bulb), needed new shaft packing, and the worst to be fixed this winter, a trailer mishap on the keel, a little fiberglass/gel-coat work ($400), and it'll be done! The steering cable had just been replaced along with the impellar so no worries there! Got all the water toys, boards, tubes, vests, ropes included! I upgraded the head unit and all speakers ($600). I paid under $22k, whereas comparable v230's were selling upwards of 25k, the cheapest at the time was 27.5k! Again, I wasn't looking for this or that hull or stuck on a brand, just a good deal!
