I'm starting to look at new boards, and at 220 lbs, I could definitely go for anything that softens landings.

What do you look for in terms of shape to dictate the softness of landings?

Wide boards, fast boards, and ones with big ol' center spines. Both my shane and witness land really soft partly because of their speed and they both have big spines. And at 220 I would suggest the Witness 144, great board.

Jack,

You don't necessarily need to look at bottom details to insure a soft landing. A board built with a foam and wood core will soften your landings considerably. Try out a Company Recruit 143 you will fall in love.

Liquid Force Groove. It can be a bit loose, but I've never felt anything softer in terms of landings, and that's the number 1 feature i look for in a board after doing my knee.
Definitely recommend giving it a try. It's really poppy too :-)

Center spine hekos.... but the best is a flex board.

Marek 146. Huge board with a ton of speed, pop and is one of the lightest boards I have ridden

Go wake to wake instead of into the flats. This is the most important thing for softening landings.

C-dub Marius, rode a lot of boards and have yet to be on something that lands softer.

Just imagine if you added a huge spine to a flex board... my sine has the softest landings I've ever felt no joke. Could get it custom sized too.

i used to ride a marius and yeah, they land really soft. didn't think there was a softer landing board until i rode the lf shane: bigger pop, faster and softer landings.

LF Lyman 143 is a great big guy board and lands like a feather. I've also heard great things about the Witness.

Thanks, all.

Of these boards, which ones are also well suited for edging aggressively? (fast)

Go to the Ripple and demo some. They've got plenty to try out, and Brad will help you.

Ridden many boards and nothing has ever come close to the Sine. I would challenge anyone who has ridden one to present another board that lands as soft.

2 for 2! the marius! widest board on the market
wider = faster!!!
Old     (wake2wake_66)      Join Date: Nov 2008       06-18-2009, 10:46 AM Reply
The Marius is slow but it is a really good shape. Wider does not mean faster. If you want a little more speed try the Ronix Arcade by Bill, I rode the Marius last year and went to a 142 Bill over the winter and really like it.
Old     (innov8)      Join Date: May 2005       06-18-2009, 10:58 AM Reply
I wouldn't say the Marius is Slow.

Really depends on the rider as well, I have a few riders in my crew that ride the Marius and they would disagree as well with the Marius being slow.

Demo, Demo, Demo!!

Go here and demo the Lyman, Groove, Watson and Shane. I would also demo a One or another Ronix just to check it out.

You can probably demo a Marius here:
