Just got a new 08 VLX and I have the Malibu Cruise on it. I am not sure if I am 100% happy with the product. Anyone else like Malibu Cruise or did you put perfect pass on you boat. Is it possible?

Thanks in advance
Preston

I like the malibu cruise much better than the perfect pass I've had before. Why don't you like it?

It seems that sometimes it can have difficulty holding speed and I feel like I am always making minor changes in the throttle to keep the cruise accurate. I am getting more used to it but I feel like my old Perfect Pass was better

What boat? How much ballast? What prop?

Perfect Pass in both of the boats I've owned has taken a little "tweaking" to get it to hold right. Maybe you have a similar issue?

There is no comparison is my mind, the Bu Cruise is much easier to change modes and use, and does not seem to "hunt" as much as the PP.

I agree, the Malibu cruise is simple. Works great for me.

I have zero issues with it.

Now we just need to get the damn thing to remember it's been turned on! I hate having to turn it on every time I turn the engine off. Annoying as hell! Other than that, I think it's great :-)

I hated turning the perfect pass off when we were done more though..

Forgot about that, just as annoying.

I know and at least you can turn the malibu cruise on or off when you're underway. I hated the perfect pass having to stop and put it into neutral to turn it on or off.

Funny you guys should bring this up because I spent a good part of my day yesterday cursing the Malibu Speed Control. Every time I shut off the boat, which is after every rider, it would turn off. Of course, I would never remember to turn it back on before the next rider gets pulled out of the water, so I would have to work the throttle manually until their first fall.

Obviously, this would be almost a non-issue if I was able to turn the speed control on at any time (which I believe I was able to do with my previous Perfect Pass) as some here have said they are able to do, but I found that I would have to be at a very low speed to do so. After a certain speed, it wouldn't let me turn on the speed control. Very frustrating.

So when I saw this thread, I busted out the manual for my VLX. There is a setting in the computer where you can set the default to "Speed Control On" or "Speed Control Off" when you start the boat. I just tested it in the driveway and I changed the setting to "Speed Control On." Now my speed control is automatically turned on whenever I start the boat.

Upon further reading, I found out that if the actual speed of the boat is within six mph of the set speed, you are not allowed to turn the speed control on. The only way to engage speed control on the fly is to reduce your speed so that you are at least six mph below the set speed and then you can turn it on. I guess you could also increase the set speed until it's six mph over your current speed and get the same result.

It's amazing what you can learn if you just read the manual! :-) I will be much happier the next time I head out on the water.

Good stuff Dave. I wonder if thats specific to 2008. Maybe I should read my manual too.

Oh man! Where the hell is my manual!?!?! Actually I don't remember receiving a manual that had anything to do with the boat. The only manual I remember getting is for the engine. Any chance you want to post how to make those changes to the cruise?

Oh and mine is an 07 so I'm hoping it's the same.

Me too Shawn. If I was near my boat, I would check it out but I'm not. Come on David... we're relying on you as always.

Dave,

Where do you find the setting to change the default. I just pulled out my manual and can't find it.

Thanks!

Preston... many of us are going to the Acme 1235.

It's 14.5x14.25 (or vice versa. I just put one on my boat as David suggested.

David or Ryan or anyone with this prop. What are the pros and cons to the Acme 1235?

Cons: Lower top speed. It's expensive.

Pros: You get a better hole shot.

This is the page out of my manual, but it's not exactly the same as my computer read out, so maybe this is specific to the 2007 model. I don't think "Favorite" was on my initial menu, but I can't really remember...

Sorry Dave.. I still don't get it. I found where you can set the default display. But, not where you can set it to be on or off upon startup.

Did you find the "Favorite" menu? With the following choices...

- Clock
- Engine
- Cruise ON
- Crusie OFF
- Speed Tach

I chose cruise on. Then when I turned the key off and on again, the default screen showed the cruise control and it was turned on. I'd go check it again, but my boat isn't here right now.

Thanks! I'll give it a try... I just won't be back to my boat for a couple weeks.
