In washington you can wakeboard until 1/2 hour after sunset. Was it worth it at least?

check the law. in some states you have a 20 minute "grace period" however since he gave you a ticket im assuming you state does not. i would however fight the ticket. 8 minutes is silly

In Minnesota it's sunrise to an hour after sunset. And the law on life vests for a rider is there must be a USCGA jacket in the boat for the rider. Hense you can ride with no jacket. Pure stupidity, how many other states are like that?

Isn't having your lights on almost admitting that it was after dark? Just something I usually think about...if I have to use the lights then technically the officer could use that against you I would think...who knows...I'm no lawyer or officer..

Where I used to ride, Marine Stadium in Long Beach CA, it was 1/2 hour BEFORE sunset. However, the patrol would just tell you to quit and not give you a ticket. That sucks man that you got a ticket.

We got stopped before in New Jersey and just got a warning. They did the normal checks for jackets and fire extingusher. We thought it was until dark and they said the "posted sunset" I thought as long as you could see? It is still light for at least a 1/2 hour after sunset and usually the best boarding time.

The jacket thing is nice in Minnesota because you can use a non-coast guard approved vest without getting a ticket- I would NEVER ride without a jacket altogether- maybe surfing though!

Well - the law is the law. Once you know it and you know you are going to be out until sunset it's not hard to look on weather.com and find out that sunset is at 8:24 pm that day or whatever. That said, it's lame for a cop to give you a ticket for riding 8 min after legal time is up. Your clock could be off 8 min.

For the record, Texas riders can legally ride from 30 min prior to sunrise to 30 min after sunset. PFD required in the boat for each person - no PFD required to be worn while riding. I strongly encourage everyone to ride in a USGCA vest, however.

If you were riding the Meramec they just had their 7th drowning in two years in that area. I am sure it is part of a safety crackdown. I know we cut it close some times on the Mississippi and there was a water patrol watching us last week up to the point that we gave up.

In MO it is no more wakeboarding at sunset and the lights have to be on half an hour after sunset.

the drowings at the meramec are down where everyone goes floating...not at george winter
water patrol must have had lots of complaints this year...I never had a problem in the past
well lesson learned

Yeah, they got me right before the channel into Snow. We're the footers always in the hole at sunrise.

the trick is to find a lake with no water cops. i went night surfing around 10pmish at the forth of july this yr it was the sh*t we had the lights on the tower and on the back next to the swim deck on and then we wrapped glow sticks around are vests. then we had the 3rd use a really strong spot light to keep hte rider lit up the whole time.

We night surf all the time. Our lake is really big, and the water cops are only out mid day on the big holidays like the 4th and Labor Day.
