A friend of mine is looking at a '96 Prostar 205, 200hrs for $18k. Is this a reasonable deal (boat looks to be in good shape from the add). Is there anything special one should look for in this boat? Thanks.

It's reasonable, but not exceptional if it's stock. Depends on the options it comes with.

A couple years ago I sold a 94 in good condition for $17k. It had 700 hrs on the TBI 350, an Ichor tower, 800 lbs of ballast, tandem axle trailer, stereo, modded rear seat/sun pad, and a 5 vent heater.
I believe the 96 is the next model... slightly higher gunnels, dash is a bit different, better EFI, etc. It's a great boat. Since your buying in the summer, prices might be a bit high in your area. If your buying to use it, and the boat has been taken care of, it's probably a good purchase. That said, 200 hrs on a 13 yr old boat isn't exactly using it. So you might have to replace a few belts, hoses & gaskets if things have dried out.

Where is your friend looking to buy. I found this today in Boise Idaho. A 2000 prostar 205 with 200 hours, tower, and racks for 17K.

If anyone is interested in this I have friends in Boise that can check it out.

I used to have a 2000, 205. IT was a great boat. That one Brian put up seems like a pretty good deal. The 1996 does not.

I have a 94 w many mods and stereo, sub,8spks,tower,ect.. in great condition w 1475hrs(we use it alot) and I bought mine 5yrs ago for 14k. 18k is too much even w low hrs and as stated the low hrs may not be great thing, check it out w a mechanic it will save you big time if ya like the boat. That said, mine has been awesome, weighted correctly throws great wake and easy to maintain/parts ect... Great boats!

200 hours on a 96 is too low, I'd stay away. It should have at least double that if it was used and maintained. I'd say $13k is reasonable, but anything over $15k is too much
