Ok so in another post I said I had a lead on a electric actuated ball valve for ballast setups. I found a supplier who can do 38$ + shipping per valve. The body is stainless 1" NPT in/out. With manual override for emergencies/failures. The body and actuator is pretty small and about 1/2 a pound. its roughly 3" tall top of actuator to bottom of valve body. They claim between 700,000 to a million lifetime cycles. Current draw @ 12vDC is 4 watts while operating.

Would anyone else be interested in something like this? I might be willing to do a bulk order if enough people want some.

They told me the actuators take about 5 seconds from closed to full open.

What are you using as a thru hull to direct the water to the valves. Also, how do you plan on emptying? I'm contenplating doing a free flow system, and If if decide to I'd be down to get some of these valves.

I'd be very interested in looking at these valves.

While operating? are they open or closed when current is switched to them? Or do you hold htem to open, hold htem to close?

Scott

Sounds like a bad way to die.

I work in the HVAC industry. There are many valves that can to that BUT the motor will not be explosion proof or marine grade at a price of $38. Show me the specs on the valve!

So update on price. The actuators I was originally quoted were goofy and to replace the actuators with a normally closed actuator they will be $48 which to me is getting to be a bit high but still doable for me. My original intent is to not use the restrictive solenoid valves because of all the pressure it takes to overpower them thereby restricting the water and taking more time to fill/empty.

chris: They are made by KLD brand model kld20s with a kt2 actuator (see attached). are you familiar? Are they complete junk? I am talking direct to china about which actuator to use. Also would you know of a lead on another company who would make something similar that would cost anywhere close to or less than this? Maybe the spark shielding will let me use the simer pumps in my setup.

dhcomp: the actuators they originally recommended were open/close depending on how power was applied (they stayed at last state). But they also make an actuator for more money that is a normally closed setup which I think most would need. (read up)

Cody: I have an internal ballast setup already the factory put the through hull in for me I was going to replace all the factory stuff with my own setup.

Are you still going to do this? I am possibly interested in this. I would be looking for (3) 3/4" and (2) 1" valves. Please let me know if you are still considering this.

Those aren't ball valves; they are diaphragm, same as sprinkler valves. Check out their valve info website: http://www.solenoid-valve-info.com/

My apologies; they are direct acting, not diaphragm. I'm just worried that they also restrict flow, though.

yeah i could see that i the question is are they full port valves?

Don't order the diaphram style ! I made that mistake and the valve was way to restrictive. I had to pull it out completely and I just put in a manual ball valve.
This was the valve:

What about a automatic sprinkler valve?
