Last night I went out on the lake to watch the fireworks and got hit up for a safety inspection. I told the officer to get out his ticket book. No registration (expired 1997), no life preservers, no fire extinguisher. He was cool and it's only $50.

LOL. Age and wisdom is what allows you to do all that and only have to pay $50.

Might be worth mentioning that this is the first patrol boat on the lake since the beginning of recorded history.

Yeah, my boat is a 1992 Ski Nautique Open Bow model. It hasn't been out of the lake/boathouse for 18 years. I have a couple of cushions in the boat that can be used for preservers. I only put the jackets in when I'm wakeboarding. When I asked the officer if the cushions count for preservers he just said if I don't give you a ticket for the preservers then I'll give you a ticket for one of the other offenses and the preservers is the cheapest. Needless to say I didn't argue.

It's a 122 acre lake and I often tie a rope to the bow and swim from the opposite end of the lake pulling the boat back to the dock for exercise. So it's not like have life jackets is a big deal.

I was really judgmental until you explained the amount of use the boat gets. Lucky you.

Well, I didn't say how much I use the boat. Just that I only use it in the lake I live on.

Yeah, I'm wondering why as well. Considering there has never been a cop on it and there's no publc boat ramp.

The story I heard now was that some douche that lives on the lake was unhappy about something on the 3rd and contacted Fish and Wildlife to come patrol the lake. I was out on the lake in the evening on the 3rd watching fireworks and it seemed fine. Just a lot of boats floating around being cool.
