Everyone at work knows I'm some kind of land locked surfing nut. So I'm sitting down at our daily project meeting and the project manager starts reading a quote from the top page of his day planer.

" THE SHAPERS | Once a shaper, or surfboard maker had selected a tree from which he would build a board, he would dig a hole near the tree, place fish among the roots, and offer a prayer to the gods. He would then chip away at the trunk with a stone ax and shape the tree to the desired dimensions. He would then pull the tree to the beach place it a lodge for finishing work. He would use coral and stone to smooth the rough surfaces and then stain the wood to the desired color.”

So what’s the procedure for a modern surfboard, I mean where do you bury the fish? Near the 55 gallon barrel of epoxy?

Ahhh, yes...the modern day equivalent involves Bread or sometimes, merely Dough. It is the making and distrubtion of Bread (from the rider breadee to the manufacturer or retailer, commonly referred to as the breador) or in certain instances the Dough that is the primary component of Bread.

As Edward Bellamy is quoted as saying: “If bread is the first necessity of life, recreation is a close second” He, I am certain, was referring to wakesurfing as a form of recreation.
