My exhaust gasket on my 2005 Merc Black Scorpion 5.7 is starting to leak and there's an obvious bulge in it. I was planning on getting a standard Chevy heavy duty gasket. Any one advise against this?

That would work. I have blown 5 manifold gaskets on 2 merc engines and know of several people that have had blown manifold gaskets on Merc engines in their Centurons as well(Not bashing the boats I love em). A Lot of people I taked too and what a couple of mechanics recommended was to buy the heavy duty ones with copper(Not 100% on that, but it had some sort of metal in there) to help it from blowing. Seem to work for 2 of them, but didn't work for me. What Worked for me was actuall grinding that aea down and just using a gasket sealer. Just a thought.
