Towing A '89 Ski Nauti 2001

Since this is a smaller boat (19' and narrow), I am wondering if this thing can be pulled by a V-6 light SUV. In particular I have a 2004 Freelander Landrover. This is smaller SUV, narrow body and I'm just wondering how much abuse it will take towing this thing.

Does anybody know the weight of this boat or have any experience towing this boat? I can look up the towing capacity in my user manual for my vehicle, just not sure how much this boat weighs. Thanks.

It's about 3500lbs boat and trailer. We used to pull with a 6cyl Envoy (rated at 5klbs) and it did fine. However, I'm showing that the Freelander V6 only has a 2500lbs tow rating.

Thanks Ryan, yeah I just found my towing capacity at 2,500 lbs, but wasn't able to find the boat/trailer weight of the Nauti 2001. Thanks.

Well, that is a total bummer. I really did not want to have to get a different vehicle to tow a boat. Those boats really don't look that big, but I guess 3,500 is actually pretty light in comparison to the large wakeboard boats.

I used to pull my 17.5' Sea Ray I/O with a V6 Camry for short distances. You should be ok, just go slow and make sure to turn your overdrive off.

The 2001 is 2400lbs dry. That is what my owners manual says. Figure the trailers weigh about 500lbs. I think you are at about 3000lbs.

I've towed my 22ft maxum with my v6 freelander. It certainly knows its there but it will pull it.

I think the 2001 will be fine.

I've towed my 88 Ski Nautique (same boat as yours) with a friend's V-6 Nissan X-Terra. One hour each way and over some big hills. I don't have working breaks either and it did just fine. Just make sure you break early.

You will know it is there but I think it will work if you are pulling short distances.

If the trailer has breaks I would not sweat it at all, if not slow down and stay alert.

I towed my 1984 Nautique with a 1989 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L with no troubles. The single axle trailer didn't even have brakes but I would highly recommend them.

Hey, just saw the responses and figured I would respond. Thanks for all the help. I appreciate it. Jay, did your freelander take a beating towing that boat? Was there quite a bit of wear and tear on that vehicle? How often were you towing? Thanks.
