I ran across a great deal on a repo 06' Centurion Avalanche. Does anyone have a opinion on this boat? Looks great but I've heard mixed things about them.

the wake is a little soft at the top. I rode behind one and wasnt that impressed. Dont get me wrong its a great boat, and the wake surf is great but to board on it i had to pass.

I have an 05. its been an excellent boat. Wake is pro quality. Replaced the rear hard tanks with 450 Fly high sacs, added about 350 lbs in the front. Wake is vert (more like a Nautique) with a very solid lip to give great pop. It requires more weight on the port side to counteract the prop torque than some boats. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Thanks. Does the O5 have a different hull than the 04? I rode behind a 04 and the wake was super small and soft even with 5 peeps in the boat and the ballast filled. I heard problems with the vinyl wearing out/ripping.

I'm also considering trying to find a older Air Nautique 210 that a little old lady only drove to church on Sundays and saving $10K.

(Biased opinion) The Avalanche when weighted correctly has a real rampy wake, it is a little soft at the top, but when it has extra weight it gets harder. The newer model Centurions are a completely different world than in the past, they are well put together and just keep getting better. Good luck with your purchase.

I got an 05 avy and I love it, I just have the center ballast with additional led in the rear lockers and with 5+ people in the boat the wake is awesome. I had to do some adjusting to my manual wake plate but now it is dialed. I have people tell me that my wake is great and they have ridden behind Nautiques, Malibus, and Mastercrafts. If it is a real good deal I wouldn't pass on it. The hull for the avalanche has not changed as far as I know.

Here are pictures of my avalanche and this was prior to adjusting the wake plate and adding the led.

The Avalanche's Hull has not change since its introduction. The fit and finish quality of vinyl and carpet have improved every year.

I have heard lots of description of the Avalanche hull but this is a first for me "the wake was super small" Even stock I would not describe it as super small

Yeah, super small is no where near accurate. Even at 35MPH it has a ramp.

I spend a lot of time barefooting and at 42 MPH its still big

I realize that i have a biased (owners view) but I have owned another brand and have ridden in almost every brand on the market. i'm not a wakeboarder, my son is pretty good and we have been to lots of events. Below is a link to a video of my son riding most of it is behind our 05 Avalanche. We were weighting with twin 450 sacs in the rear, factory center hardtank (250 lbs), and about 300 lbs of lead spread mid and rear. Wake was very vertical with lots of pop, never described as soft. We have moved the 300 lbs of lead to the front this year which gives a little more ramp but retains a hard lip to give pop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFLUPR9W-lA

George your kid is killing it, you must be a proud pop. You've got the only clean wake coming out of a centurion I've ever seen. Looks good.

Looks like a typical Avalanche wake to me! Great video!

Dang George, your boy can throw down. Makes me want to throw a lot more weight into my avy.

One of the best features of the Avy is that you can get a proquality wake with 1500 - 1800 lbs. To equal that wake in an 205V hull (orig x-star, X-2, now x-1) you would need over 2500 lbs.

Or you could just get a vlx with stock ballast and blow them all away.

And how much more is the bu or a MC, how much smaller is the 210?

IMO my Lightning with stock ballast and a crew of three has a nice wake. With a crew of six, 350 pounds of bag weight in the bow, and about 1,000 in the lockers and center tank the wake is intimidating for some riders.

The Avy was designed from the ground up for wakeboarding, should be better than my Lightning. We should have an Avy at Wakefest this year, that will probably be my first opportunity to ride behind one, can't wait!

The VLX's i've been in at Tournaments are running about 3000 pounds. You never need that much in the Avy.
