I have an 04' X-Star, if i have it loaded down with people, I put a 250 in each of the back compartments. I have the MCX and it will not plane off with much more weight than that.

That greatly depends on what engine and prop you have in it. I can put over 3 grand in mine, not including people, but I have the 6 liter and and 14x16. Let me know your setup, and I can help you out.

Tyler--definately talk to your dealer about reducing the pitch of your prop. If you are going to load down an X-Star with the MCX, you'll need 14x16. Takes away from the top end, but I have no problem getting out of the hole with 2K to 2.5K in weight.

The older 205V X-Stars I liked to dispurse the weight evenly--I liked the wake when I had the middle of the boat sunk. With the AP-1 hull (new X-Star) I like more of the weight in the back--tends to steepen the ramp a little more than even distribution.

I do not have an X star yet but i am either going to get that or an X2 and i rode behind one that i think was weighted wrong and it didnt impress me.i think the boat had more weight in the front then it did back.i will get an 06 if i get one and prbibly get the 450 horsepower motor in it

If you do that you can go crazy with it. I have about 750 in the nose of my boat, and 600 on each side of the engine. You can put 5 or 6 people in it no problem, more than that and a few are definitely going to be riding in the bow.
The new X-2's are sick as well though. You can't go wrong.

I have a 04 X-Star with a 6-liter and a 13.7 X 15 prop. I run a 540 lbs sack in the left side locker 350 lbs in the right side locker and a 350 in the bow. The wake is huge and rampy with this much ballast but if I have more than 4 people in the boat I have to drain a little from the stock ballast to plane off in a reasonable distance. Gas gets expensive but itís not as bad as the L18 with the same ballast setup. If I had the choice I would run the MCX it seems to pull the load out of the hole a little better with all other things equal. You can sink any 205V hull MasterCraft to the rub rails and it will handle and plane off better than the pickle fork X-Stars, but the wake wonít even come close to being as big.

I have ridden both boats completely slammed and I would say it's the other way around. You're right about the getting on plane part though.

I concur, a slammed X-Star/X-2/X-1 is hard to beat. Damn MC with there changing # schemes.

the new xstar wake doesnt appeal to me unless its completely slammed.

The x2/x1/old xstar wake starts off great and just gets bigger and better the more you add to it.

Dont get me wrong, the d ups on the newer xstars are sic, but for overall riding the x2 gets my vote anyday. The xstar in my opinion is more of a leisure boat, built for room.

In my 06 X-Star we run 800lbs in the bow and two 600lbs in the rear. I have the MCX with an OJ 4-Blade 13.7x15.5. The boat is a little sluggish but not to bad. We normaly only have 2 or 3 people in the boat. Loaded that way the wake is huge and rampy.

We have a 04 x-star and we run factory plus 2-600lbs in the rear lockers and 400 lbs of lead in front. We run a 13.7*15.5 also. Much much better than the stock prop and holds speed pretty well with all the weight.

btw travis said it right, the new xstars NEED rear weight or it is just to rampy imo, and i prefer rampy wakes.

We've got an 03 X-Star (New Model) with the MCX engine. It's got a 17x20 stainless prop and we were looking to get a new one. Can everyone with the new X-Star let me know what engine/prop you're running? Also, how is swithcing to a 14x16 prop going to affect maintenance and gas?

Kent..13.7*15.5 is the best option for hole shot performance. Fuel comsumption is high, but who cares when it produces the wake it does with all that extra far as maint. just check the trans fluid regularly..
we have a 04 x-star with the mcx..

Kevin - How much more gas do you think it'll drink? Right now I get roughly 1 engine hour for every 6.6 US gallons gas.

Let me clear that up when I say people I mean 12 people. So overall I'm running about 3000 pounds on the MCX.

I never really think about the fuel comsumption cause I will probably go nuts.. LOL.. I know usually 57 gallons will last about 6 hrs at running at 3,800-4,000 is 9.5 gallons per hr???hmmmmmmmmm.... going to go hange myself now...J/K... have fun.. the wake will be freaking huge!!

7 yo 10 gallons a hour is about right for a loaded X-Star with the AP-1 (new) hull and MCX engine.

I have an 05 x-star with mcx and stock 4 blade prop. I have been doing wake boarding and wake surfboarding.
I have a 350 in the port rear locker, a 350 on the port seat, a 350 on the back seat far left, and a 350 on port bow seat, the kgb full, the port stock full and the starboard empty for wake surfboarding. For wakeboarding we slide the back seat 350 to the starboard seat behind the driver, slide the bow 350 to starboard, we have either driver only or driver & spotter, and balance with port and starboard stock ballast tanks. So 850 lbs stock, 1400 in sacks, approx 270 lbs in gas, and 200-400 in people. Total is 2720 - 2920 lbs plus 4k empty boat weight.
I have no problems getting out of the hole. The wake for boarding is rampy, high and beautiful.

We're running from 18 to 21.5 mph with 60 to 75 feet of line. For surfing riding port side at 10.3 mph and the wake in almost hip high. Getting a little interference from the hull step.

Gas is averaging 6.8 Gallons/hr.

Guess that about covers it.

Thanks guys for your feedback. I think that next year I'm going to supplement the stock ballast to get the wake a little steeper so I like to hear about other peoples setups. I do think that I will invest in a different prop though, question is which one...
