I have never had a wake board boat...I have had a Celebrity boat that I just sold. Here are the questions that I have.

I need some help with the best boat I can get for b/t 12-18k...The newer the better. I have seen:

1996 Mastercraft Prostar with 319 HP 480 hours for $16,500 (any thoughts)

1996 Ski Centurion Lapoint Elite 235 hours, 315 HP for $14,500 (how is the wake? any thoughts?)

1999 Aztec Sunstar -any one heard of these? how are they? $14,500 315HP

1997 Response LX 211 hours, 320 HP $15,999 (no tower)

Please any help would be appreciated...or any other boats that you guys think would be the best. I have always boarded behind my celecrity and am just limited on what I can do...Thanks!

Nate thanks for the help man...

I am really not sure at all which would produce the best wake so I appreciate the help. I ruled out the Azcrap.

Does anyone know about the wake with the Ski Centurion Lapoint Elite?

Hey can you also tell me how much different the wake is on the Response vs the Prostar...

prostar or response.
the wake, when weighted in these two is still very good...
never been happy with an older centurion boarding wake and i think aztecs are no longer being made?

I have a response, wont be selling it till after this season. The wake with 2000lbs and the wedge is really clean and huge. The only problem with it is getting it furthern then 65-70ft back. At about 70ft, the wake starts curling, and even increased speeds dont push it back. Otherwise, I love the wake and I have progressed a lot with this boat. Would not have wanted to start out on anything less.

Artie, which prostar is it? 205 or 190? The 205 is the same hull as the x-2 and with a little experimenting you can get an awesome wake. Is the response an open bow?

The prostar is the 205.

The response is open bow it is the response LX

Let me know what you think...

Both are great boats, personally I like the prostar better, MC had better fit and finish in those years than Bu plus more inteior/storage room. Does the prostar have the Corvette engine(LT1)? Otherwise the TBI in that year was only 285 or 275HP, those were the only two engine choices that year. If I were you, I would go with the BU or the MC depending on which one you like the looks of, ride, wake, layout and features of the best. In my experiance the Responses have a small open bow, but to some that might not be a big deal. I don't think you would be dissapointed in either boat.

The '96 205 is not the sme hull as the old Xstar/x2. I think they changed it in 98. Still, the 205 will be a better boarding boat IMO.

Thanks for help guys...I have found several MC Prostar 205 that I am looking at. Is there a big difference in the boats from 1995 year model to 1998 year model. I have seen several in my price range and the years are b/t 1995 and 1998.

Is there a certian year or anything I should look out for?

If you can find a '98 or newer, buy it. The hull will be the same as the old XStar/X2(which means it will be very good). I use to have an '00 205, and I loved the boat. It was easy to take care of compared to my v-drive(less seats)and it drove like an indy car. It would get a little cramped with all the sacs and people in the boat, but that is the downfall of a D-drive.

hull and aesthetics changed in '96 for the 205. big difference in hulls from old '95 to the new'96. i would stay away from a '95. go'96 or newer and you will get the same hull used for the original x star. in fact, you may look for a '97 direct drive x star. (green or blue) there out there but hard to find. '98 hull changed again for the 205 but still a formidable boarding wake when weighted.

I have a 96 centurion elite V drive and the wake is very good. Its also 22ft and has wrap around seating. Great boat for under 20K. The MC 205 is a good boat also, but you will be tired of stepping over fat sacs by the end of the summer. I found a Vdrive for under 20K so hopefully you can too. Good Luck!
