I've never wakeboarded before, but I body board, and kneeboard and am a "water-boarding" enthusiast.
I have been wanting to get involved in wakeboarding, but dont know anyone who can. I am planning on possibly buying a board and whatever other equpiment I will need, and just taking it out onto the lake and giving it a whirl.
I've read up on the tips for beginners, but had a few questions.
A. Will I need a tower?
B. Am I completely insaine for just going out there and winging it?
C. What type of board, and how should I know what size (i.e up to shoulder?)?
D. Will I need to buy bindings seperatly?
E. To "get started" what BASIC equipment will be needed?
I think that pretty much covers most of my questions FOR NOW, I am as green as it gets...thanks for the help!

1) NO tower is not nessicary

2)Nope... how do you think we all started

3) go to your local shop and talk to the salesman... most of them are pretty knowlegable and will be able to help ya... ( and to give you any info on here we'd need to know how tall you are and how much you weigh)

4) possibly, you could get a package deal from your local shop

5) Boat (duh), rope, board, bindings, friends help too

Thanks Blair,
Ok good news.
I am about 5'10 and weigh about 140 Pounds.
Could you give me a rough estimate for a board, bindings, and rope, so that I can have a general idea of what I should be spending? I'm not going to be buying top of the line, i'm starting out, so I want to get somthing that will get the job done, but isnt going to break the bank, or break me. lol
Thanks again.

a board in the 135-139 range should be fine
better to start out with a package to get a better price
you can get a cwb with mobe bindings for around 300 bucks

buy a non stretch line get one on ebay for 25 buck...
start out around 18-20 mph with a 45-50 ft rope
once you get the hang of it you can extend those.
a wakeboard pylon is the cheaper than a tower..
weight like fat sacs will give you a bigger wake
for height...
hope that helps a little

Stefan, Look in the classified section here on WW and you can probably find a good deal on a set up or try E-bay.
I would also recommend going out with someone that has a little experience just to make things a little easier for you.
You might try to find a pull here in the find a pull section.

Good luck,
Ps if you like kneeboarding your going to love Wakeboarding !

When you say "135-139" are you talking inches...density...or is it just a number given to a certain size board? lol, like I said...i'm green.
Any good brands for the starting out price range, so that I can get an idea of names?
I'm trying to gather as much info as I can...figure better start out with some head knowledge.
Thanks again guys

135-139 refers to the board length in centimetres. Almost all companies have good entry level deals, some of the names are liquid force, hyperlite, cwb, double up, gator, obrien.

135 - 139 is the size in Centimeters...

its basicly how much weight the board will float in the water...

im not one to give ideas for what is a good board to get... but some of the guys may have some opinions

and knowlege is a good thing... and like walt said Your gonna like it
