I'm looking into buying a wakeboard. A friend, who is an experienced boarder, is offering to sell me his Hyperlite Latitude for $250, which is in immaculate condition w/ bindings (not sure what bindings, but they're supposed to be really good as well).

My question, does anyone have any experience with these boards? Perhaps any advice on them? This a pretty good deal?

I'm 90% sure I'll be getting this board, but wanted to know if there was anything I should know about it. I'm a beginner.

Thanks all

technology has come a long way in 5 years. do yourself a favor and get something newer. What bindings are on the board? I think $50 would be a good price for the board, regardless of what condition it is in.

If the bindings are as old as the board is you are paying too much. The Latitude is from about 1998 and boards have changed alot since then. You can get a New Hyperlite Motive with beginner bindings new for under $300 from a board shop.
GET into you local shop and talk to the experts!

who needs enemies w/ friends like ones that charge you $250 for a 1998 board and bindings?

seriously, unless the board has 2003 or newer bindings, i wouldn't pay $250 for the setup.

He says it's his brothers board, and he believes it to be a 2002 or 2003. He said it's a great board, and I do trust the guy. Perhaps it's not a Latitude?

if it's a latitude, it's not an '02 or '03. The last year they made that board was 2000.

What's the difference in an older board that was bought recently new, and is still in new condition, and that of a more "up to date" board? If that question makes sense.

Cody said"What's the difference in an older board that was bought recently new, and is still in new condition, and that of a more "up to date" board? If that question makes sense. "

the difference is one the new board has a warranty, the new board also isnt as good as some of the new boards in quality like the insert and fin technology has changed a lot ,also the new bindings are so much better fitting then they were back int he day etc etc..

plus the kicker is that model ,assuming its what you say it is ,isnt worth 250 no matter if it was still in a wrapper ans never been used..

i have an 04 Obrien demented ill sell you for 180 dollars plus shipping ..its last years shapiros pro model...that ought to tell you something about his price..you can get demo and used stuff at your local pro shops for that price as well..

you can buy a brand new third run board with mid range bindings for that price..

im sure that setup would work for you but id tell him you did some research and offer him 150 dollars for that setup maximum...ive sold my old boards like that for 40-80 bucks ...

Appreciate all your help. I was looking at getting an '05 Liquid Force Evo (Element bindings) or '05 O'Brien Oasis (links) combos before I considered this deal. I can get either for $290 out the door. What do you all think about those boards? Decent price?

I havent ridden either of those boards, but they have got to be better than what your friend was gonna sell you. Tell your friend to get with the program.

I'm pretty sure that Hyperllite still sells the Latitude to stores like Sports Authority and Bass Pro Shops.

I have the EVO, it is a great board to learn on.

Thanks SoCal. I've looked through ebay for the last couple weeks, and passed up on some good offers. I kinda regret it, I'll have to see if the greatest deal just lands in my lap now.

Daniel, I heard the '04 Links were "junk" and the sizes were not very fitting to most sizes. i.e., they don't fit who they're supposed to. But I will check that out.

jakob,
I've send Bill a PM, waiting for him to reply

Thanks

I could see that being true...but if you get the xl/xxl size, which I think is the biggest one, it'll fit your foot perfectly if your size is 11, which lucky enough for me it does, but if you have bigger feet I would argree with that. Besides that the only part that i would say is not too comfy but it'll be more flexible after using them for a while is the tongue...it sorta is really tight on the top of my ankle but that will definetly get more loose with riding.

Where did you hear about the $30 dollar discount for purchases over $200? That's great!
Old    polskadan            02-24-2005, 7:42 AM Reply
Its in there catalogue, i think you can only get it by ordering over the phone, but here it is

save $30 bucks on orders over $250(my bad i thought it was 200, thats why i also orderd the bag since i'd save 30 bucks anywho)

save $20 on orders over 200

and save 15 on orders over 150

How much is shipping on a board from Overtons? does it negate the discount?
Old    polskadan            02-24-2005, 7:52 AM Reply
oooo, good point, the shiping came out to 18 bucks for board, bindings, and bag.
Old    Cody (loudontn)      Join Date: Feb 2005       02-24-2005, 8:03 AM Reply
hmm, i could probably assume about 15 bucks for just the board. Did they add a sales tax when you bought yours?
Old    polskadan            02-24-2005, 8:06 AM Reply
nope, no sales tax
Old    Cody (loudontn)      Join Date: Feb 2005       02-24-2005, 8:12 AM Reply
Well it seems like I could save a few bucks getting it online. I don't know if I will though, may just shop locally for convenience.

Grr,just not sure what board to go with. Very hard choice, as inexperienced as I am.

I called and asked about getting the discount without a catalog, they said I would have to have the code from the magazine to obtain the discount. Oh well :-( I've ordered one but it may be too late by the time I get it.
