We are working on the Boarders Paradise 2005 series of events and are looking for some input. What else would you guys like to see out there? We are thinking night events, slider events, non-invert events, wakeskating ollie contests, big name "pro" events,etc.. I am looking to go outside of the box and really set Norcal back as a leader in the country for new ideas and exposing talent.

Definitely have a contest at Bell Aqua. That is an awesome contest lake. The Dark Friday contest awhile back was good. Maybe could have used a few more lights, but it was still cool. Please pull with something other than a B52 though.

Hey JB, you should mix it up. Night events would be great (as long as there is enough lighting for us guys with old eyes). Do stuff like this http://www.koreus.com/files/200409/extreme-tubing.html , maybe while you are refueling the primary pull boat. Award prizes for most origional trick, riding gear (seen a guy ride in a Cat in the Hat hat once), and as always best crash. Wakeskate doubleups? Definitely the Pro-Am stuff. Have team division competition, designate teams consisting of 1 or 2 riders from each division, add their individual place points to see which team wins.

Hope I can make it up there next year for one of your events.

Also, how about an Expression/Video event? No judging, no practice. Instead of 2 passes / 2 falls, everyone gets 4 passes / 4 falls, double up at the end of the 4th, if they make it that far. The extra time will be made up by not having practice, and starting the event early. Invite Blodgett/Kilgus/Buffalow/Frances (), or anyone to film the day, make a "super unknown" video out of it. They/you are bound to get some quality footage. Keep the filming a secret (until the day of the event), unless you want to make it a 2 day (everyone wants to be in pictures!). We may try this format next weekend at Parker, except for the video part.

Having a doubles content (2 riders simultaneously) after the main event would be great for spectators.

I agree with the doubles idea. Maybe even a 'King of the hill' type format where riders match trick for trick until someone falls. The winner stays to compete against the next challenger.

All Good Ideas, I agree

I would also like to see if a contest can actually be held somewhere on the delta more locally by Dbay, Bwood or Tracy...

- Maybe having Demo's @ the beginning /end of the comp.
- Wakeskate Oliie contest - limbo bar / move it up instead of down....

-= peace =-

Hey Jason, where do you guys put on most of the contests. I know you have a shop at Cope & McPhetre's in Reno, I actually got my setup there this year. I live in Truckee and would love to get more involved and meet other riders in the area. If you guys need help or more input shoot me an email.

I would run a boys & girls beginner div. combined , boys & girls intermediate div. combined, mens & womens advanced combined. With the top 3 of each division having a run-off final heat.

The Outlaw/Open division- qualifying heats and challenge heats for the top 8 based on how they are seeded.

I think a ramp with a wakeboarding or wakeskate hi-jump (don't have to hold onto the handle when you land, just clear the bar) would be fun. Kind of like the moto-cross one. Keep moving it up until the last rider is standing.

Mike,

Evan and Billy said they took a ride behind your new 23' B52 and it was insane.

Yeah, not to hype the B-52 or Mack-Millen for any reason, but that wake is sick. It bucks you really hard and can be deceiving looking. You charge that thing and you're looking at major hang time.

About the contests... Keep the pace moving and riders on the water. If its at night: light it up as much as possible. At Bell Aqua, maybe try to set up on the parking lot side in the middle of the lake for a better view. From the grassy side you see the boat turn around and about 3 tricks. Anyway, its cool to get as many comps as possible. I'd love to see something a little closer to the delta for those of us that work in the mornings. Also, the friday night thing was cool for the same reason.

Peace
Evan

Actually, yes I have. I believe it was a 2005 with the stock ballast full, and 4 people in the boat. Sorry, it was pretty unimpressive.

Hey Joe, MB was cool enough to sponsor a local event that even you seemed to appreciate. Why are you ripping them? I don't have much experience with MB's, but the MB wake at Wet Thursday's seemed just fine. Bel Aqua, though always smooth, is very shallow which majorly decreases wake size. You cannot judge a wakeboat's wake by what you get at Bel Aqua.

Glad to see the boarder paradise series returning, I missed them this summer. As far as what should go down, the double up contest they had before the night tourny a few years back was a blast. Only thing is that it took to long and the outlaw riders ended up getting shafted at the end (lights had to be out by 12).

I like the idea of having it in two locations for those who can't drive all over northern cali to see or ride in them. Matching tricks, night riding, slider contest and d-up contest.

switch riding only contest would be unique.

I like the match trick idea. Eric Koston did that once and they played 'HORSE'. Some local skateboarder beat Koston with crazy switch bs flips. It was really impressive watching these guys land tricks they have never tried before. I think it would really progress the sport.

JB, Glad the BP events will be back. I missed you guys.
Please make sure to include an old farts' division, er, masters, for sure!!
A no-invert format sounds pretty interesting. All switch format sounds cool, but too limiting for the whole series. Maybe have a different format for each event. One at night, one no-inverts, one switch only, one with sliders, etc.
Have one event where only switch toeside blind spinning is allowed... j/k
Much thanks to you, Nelson if he's involved, and the rest of your crew for putting all the work into making these things happen. Can't wait to see you all out there - these are super fun!

Comps in Nor Cal would be soo sick... seein as how I didn't wakebaord when Boardstock was on Shasta Lake which i live like not even a mile from.....Too bad I missed it...but yeah I agree with the begginers and intermediate comps becuase I suck.....but advancing none the less anyone wanna go riding hit me up

I like the idea of non-invert events, but maybe don't have to be so restrictive. Maybe change the judging of an event so that style or technical moves, including grabbing spins/inverts, straight air grabs, etc. get more props than usual...give riders more incentives to throw a stale b/s 180, or even a tweaked out method, rather than an ungrabbed crow type thing.

Obviously, the judging would be even more subjective that way, but it would be cool to see riders have a more unique run than stock invert after stock invert and maybe stock spin or two.

Or, maybe just include a category for "most stylish", "best trick", "best crash", etc. like that Malibu Contest used to.

Night events sound like a good idea too.

Have an event in Reno (Sparks Marina) or Tahoe (Boca/Stampede/etc).

Great ideas guys. We are really trying to do something different that what is normally done. We know that we have 25+ outlaws that ride, tons of good wakeskater and probaly 50-100 that woudl be intermediate, masters, or novice. Keep the ideas coming.

How' bout wakeskating Joust? wakeskate Ollie contest?

what about having different rounds for the advanced and open riders. like you have to qualify and half the guys get bumped then the rest reride for the finals. double up comps are for sure the most fun to watch.
