I am looking at a combo boat - i like to slalom, we all like to surf and wakeboard as well:

based on what i am willing to spend (30k or so), i am probably looking at 2006 -2008 models depending on the manufacturer.

i need some direction - most likely cant get a malibu newer than 2003 for that price (a little too old for me). feedback on the x1 (2006) x2 is probably too much. i really need feedback on the Moomba Outback V and Tige 20V.

Ideally i'd like to keep to around 20ft for skiing and lift.

The mid 2000's Moomba Mobius V's are the same boat as the mid to late 2000's outback V's. I think there might of also been an Outback lsv that is the same boat as well. Besides those the Mastercraft 205V hull is about as good at everything as possible. Might be stuck looking at at 2003-2005 X2's and older xstars though. The 2005 X2 is the best of the those 205V's in my opinion. Not because the hull is different, but because they have the best tower with swivel/clamp racks and in 05 the X2's came loaded to the hilt. Mid 2000's Malibu Sunscape VLX would be on the diamond hull and be a great option as well.

This is coming from a Tige owner... If you're thinking 30k and you're considering 06 Tige 20V vs 04 Mastercraft X2 - thats a no brainer for me, the X2 is the better wake probably both ways, def better board wake. No reason to be scared of an 04... I am pretty sure I saw an 04 on Inboardsonly or craigslist for 29,900, and you might be able to deal. Friend on my lake snagged an 04 I think, with all the options, red gel for like 35 3 years ago...

Or a Superair from those years can be had for your range too, good ski and excellent board and a boat that will HOLD ITS VALUE - thats rare in the boat world, something you could turn around in 2 - 3 years and only lose 2k - if that... Prices might go up on those hulls. Personally I'd stay away from Moomba, the mid 2000s def are not as plush or high quality as the mastercrafts and malibu of that era

I used to own a 2002 Supra SSV and it was a great combo boat. It had a large wake plate and when the boat was completely unloaded (except for the spotter)we would drop the wake plate down and the wake was pretty small skiing over 26 mph. We also upgraded the ballast system to the gravity games sacs and the wakeboard and surf wakes were very nice. I think models up to 2005 have the same hull.

I've got an '04 X2 and have a few friends that ski behind it. No way I am skiing ever again, but they have a great time.

Hard to beat the monster wake she'll throw for boarding and she surfs really well off both sides.

Thanks for all the feedback on my post - now the specifics come - condition obviously a factor here but 2006 x1 and 2007 x1 each for 35k or a 2005 x2 for 30?

Similar condition an hours the 05 X2 every time. The 05 X2 should of come stock with Tower, swivel racks, probably had the MCX, bolster seat, nicer trailer, nicer dash, better JL stereo, pull up cleats, SS rubrail, PP, etc... Most if not all that is an option on the X1's and a lot didnt' have those things, at least from the factory, to try and keep the cost down.

2005 X2 with 240 hours or 2005 Malibu VLX with 340 hours?

I would go higher hours, it sat less. 50 hrs a yr isn't too too bad... What boat do you like better?

Nautique SV211 or Malibu VTX should be on the top of your list. It will be tough to find the VTX in that price range but I have seen a few 04-05 SV211's in that price range (plus a lot of overpriced ones in the $40's). Realistically I would not expect to get more than $32-33k for my 05 SV211 and it has over $10k in stereo and lighting upgrades (it's not for sale). My boat has just over 600 hours, I would not shy away from anything with less than 500 or one with a bit more as clean as mine with 600. I use my boat and probably have 2x the average for guys that would be considering selling. Lots of sellers are selling because they didn't use it as much as they expected.

What extent of slaloming do you like to do?

2007 VLX is not going to be a good ski boat unless it is on a diamond hull(which it could be). an 05 X2 would be much better in that area. That said the 05-08 VLX is way bigger of a boat then the X2 with way more storage/seating. Wakeboard wakes are both great, surf wakes are probably of similar quality.

I would look for a Sanger 215 and put surf tabs on both sides. I have a 237 and when I empty all tanks and push the tabs all the way down looks like a flat wake v drive boat for skiing. Add water and tabs and you have a great surf and wake boarding boat. Good luck.

Consider a Centurion 2007 Enzo 216 or 2008 Enzo 220 ... I surf and wakeboard on mine, and many of the owners bought them for their slalom characteristics. They are a wide boat, about 6 inches wider than the xstar, and very stable. The stock prop will easily reach slalom speeds, but if you are adding much weight you will want a lower pitch one. Should be able to find a 2007 for mid 30's.

Last week I took a few slalom sets behind an 09 vride and a 2012 VLX and both wakes were totally fine. I ski at 36 and the other guy was at 32. We both ran at 15 off the rope. I was impressed with how decent the wake actually was coming from a prostar 190.

both boats had the "wake" hull. The owner of the VLX had a 2011 VTX with the diamond hull last year and he told me there was little to no difference in the wakes compared to his new VLX.. I felt the wake was marginally better in the 2012 over the Vride.. These are out of your budget but definitely ski-able fyi.

Look for a Malibu iRide also... Very versatile boat for a very affordable price.

The Tige 20V 04 and up would fit your needs perfect. I have done every sport you list behind the boat and it preformed well in all of them. Works well for barefoooting also.. Good luck! Tige 22I and 21I and 22I would also fill the bill if you wanted a little bit bigger boat.

I used to run the course in our old xstar all the time. With two people in the boat @ 36 the wake was very nice.
