I'll keep this short, just looking for some insight from other peeps who've had my problem.

I broke my 5th metatarsal in my right foot (outside bone on my right foot) on March 12th, doctor said it'll be about 6-8 weeks until it's healed. After 4 weeks, he said progress is coming along perfectly judging by the x-rays. I go back May 2nd and I should be out of my cast/boot and off my crutches. Hopefully it'll be up to par by then and I can be active because I can't even drive a car (I could, but doc says better not) and it's driving me crazy!

The season is here and I'm a fish out of water... Can anyone with a similar incident chime in on how long it was until they were back on the water? I don't want to push it, and re injure my foot. The muscle in my right leg has atrophied remarkably in comparison to the other. Are there any exercises you can recommend for rehabbing this guy? Anything I can do now?

I need activity in my life!

Well i would much rather be in your situation, I broke my femur last august and I am still out. It's been 8 months and I probably will just start boarding again in a month. I have a rod from my hip to knee and screws.

As far as all you leg muscles, those will grow back quickly since they weren't harmed. Just start doing squats and your daily routine.

I would get with a good trainer (not your average 24 hour fitness trainer) or PT person and rebuilt that leg. Otherwise you're going to be at high risk of blowing out you knee or any number of injuries caused by lost coordination and strength in that leg. As Jordan suggested, I'd try to get into squat patterns provided that the glutes are firing properly, and you have no imbalances that are causing things like femur rotation, adduction, or abduction, while you squat. You might start by isolating glutes, quads, hams, and then moving to integrated movements after a couple of weeks (like squats) once all is working well.

I would also start on some kind of reactive or plyo training to get your body used to impact again.

I actually broke the same bone on my left foot, with the same recovery window, and the doctor told me as long as my skate was tight, I could return to hockey practice after 2 weeks. I did, and there were no complications. I was back on a board by week 4 with no problems.

I've got 5 months left of an ACL rehab....feel better?

I'd say just work on leg strength, muscle tone and balance especially. Stand on 1 foot on the ground while watching tv, then move to a pillow, and then to standing on a trampoline
