Just got my new 2012 Epic 23V. I had a 2011 which I sold and now got a 2012. Anyway, few things you will notice if you know about these. WetSounds is first...!! Woo Hoo...nice.

1. Wetsounds
2. Flooring is Seadeck and is bad ass!
3. 8.2 Merc instead of 8.1
4. Cut Swim step very nice
5. Holds for the bow
6. Night nav lights built into hull
7. 4000# ballast
8. New Graphic
9. New trailer

So what do you think...?

Great, way to make me feel good about my left-over 2011 that I just got....But seriously, nice setup! Jealous of the Wetsounds system.

Ha....sorry Paul. There are some things on the 2011 that I like better for sure. But 2012 is pretty sick. Oh I forgot to mention it has a loud speaker so you can talk to the rider and teach how to surf and board. I thought that was an amazing idea.

Really nice. Love the seadeck floor - what a great idea. Is the idea of the speakers on the transom so that you can blast music to the rider without having to hear it in the cabin? With 8 of them it must be pretty awesome.

Scott i love the color, the seadeck floor, the trailer step pad with epic on it.Do you have enough speakers?I can't believe how many speakers. It seems early for a 2012 you must have gotten the first one.CONGRATS on your new ride!It looks great and you should be proud!

Yeah from what I was told this is the first 2012. Speakers are just RIDICULOUS !!!

Oh i forgot 4000 lbs of ballast! That must make a HUGE wake.

Does Epic own stock in Sea Dek? They have Sea Dek everywhere on them...including the bottom of the glove box! They've had Sea Dek on the floor since '07.
Old    ScottRobinson            06-06-2011, 8:26 AM Reply
Not sure but they put some on the Gunnels for me which is awesome!
Old    Timmy! (timmyb)      Join Date: Apr 2007       06-06-2011, 8:28 AM Reply
So they have it in the glovebox, on the floor, on the gunnels, the swimpad and on the trailer fender and steps. Like $2k worth! LOL!

My buddy is looking in to having a bow filler cushion made for his now that they have those grab bars in the front that the cushion could rest on. I'll post pics if/when he gets it made since he doesn't post on here.

14 plus Sub and 2 amps. Kenwood deck

Boat looks great. They could have placed the seadek on the swim platform better. Doesn't quite line up left to right.

Overall nice looking boat. I would ditch those Epic graphics in hurry. I love the tower. I still don't know if I think the transom stereo is a good idea. the fit and finish seems to really be lacking in that boat. Maybe they are trying to produce a no frills boat that values wake over fit and finish so they can keep the cost down around 50-60 grand. I am not sure the bow rails do anything. They would of been better at just leaving them off the boat.

Scott, boat looks great! How is the water level on Mississinewa? Huntington is WAY UP and Salamonie is up quite a bit as well still. We never hooked up last year and should try and get together to ride sometime this summer.

We had a loud speaker in one of our boats. Bad idea.... hahaha... People start having coctails and it seems like a good idea to "converse" with other boats. Not good.

Enjoy the new ride. I like the WS set-up.

Sharp, I like the color combo! I think the flooring looks good but I really can't imagine liking that over carpet. Carpet just lends a warmer feel and appearance that I prefer. Does it have a bow filler cushion? I assumed thats what those grab rails in the bow are for, other wise that is a very odd choice and could see those leaving some nasty bruises or even breaking legs if someone were stnading there and a large wave rocked the boat causing them to fall. Stock system looks awesome. I think the transom speakers look cool and probably sound good too but I'm a big fan of having tower speakers, without them towers just look naked.

NICE!!! It's taken a loooooong time to take this company from concept in 2002 to First Prototype in 2005 http://wakeworld.com/news/feature/ep...05-42-285.html And now we are putting out AWESOME Boats like this from our new factory in Louisiana. I have to thank ALL the people in Louisiana for building this amazing wake creating machine and YOU Scott for becoming a proud new Epic Poppa for the SECOND TIME! My Thanks are never enough to all the people that have helped with their skills, comments, stoke, time and monetary support to make it all happen. THANKS AGAIN SCOTT!!!

Awesome looking boat! But every time I see the double "dutch" rudder. I think of 'zack and Mary make a porno'! How more effective is the double rudder?

Scott that boat looks great! I have not had the opportunity to ride behind an epic since I was a student at ASU. Back then, Jimmy Wolf had the proto type boat for a while and it was great! Would love to get a set behind that thing....I am down on geist, so not too far off. Give me a shout if you can ever use another rider. I have gas money and can clean a mean boat!

Scott looks great congrats!

I have had my EPIC 23V since Aug 2007 and still love it! Can't get a new one and pay for kids' college at the same time or else you would have the 2nd 2012 with the 2nd 8.2ltr! LOL

Dual Rudders - improved handling, fast response. yes you will notice a difference, chances are you're first time driving you will overcompensate out of a turn.

Transom speakers - speaking from 4yrs of experience - yes you can hear them at 75-80ft, 23-25mph tow speeds (or less). I have a full kicker set up, can't speak for the wetsounds setup but I think WS speaks for itself.
Old     (HighVoltage)      Join Date: Aug 2010       06-07-2011, 8:58 AM Reply
Beautiful boat Scott!

I like the vertical bars on the transom, gives you something to pull yourself out of the water with and flop onto the swim deck.

Integrated mega phone for teaching - great idea!

Those gate valve ballast tanks must be nice, quick filling/draining and no pumps to wear out.

The dual rudders are great, v-drive boats are notorious for poor low speed maneuverability, I can't imagine trying to dock one with only 1 control surface (rudder).

That cut swim-step will be nice for surfing, keeps the corners from dragging when you load the boat up.

That 8.2 probably gets on plane even faster than before, must be a rocket ship with empty tanks.

I can't wait to see what Epic has in store for the future of Wakeboats.

Boat looks great!! i am a huge fan of the blackand grey combo. Being from florida I have never seen one of these boats. But if i were to get one it would be same color as yours. So since we dont have a dealer anywhere around here I have no idea what this boat goes for. What price range would one see if looking into a 2012 Epic 23V. Thanx

The vertical bars on the transom are to support the sunpad extension. The transom audio is awesome! My friend has the JL 7.7" speakers in his with 150 watts going to each one (1,200 watts) and they are SUPER loud!!!

NO way! haven't you heard, they cause brain damage.

We have a SAN210 right now and our next boat (assuming we find a used one 35k +/- in the next year or two) will be a 23v. Can't afford the new one, but as long as it doesn't have the volvo engine we're going Epic

NOPE. Expect a base at $52,000.00 and loaded like Scott's here around $62,000.

Base is still heavily loaded with what others consider options. Fully loaded means full WS stereo upgrade, heater, bimini and maybe some frills.

Straight Mercruiser. I gotta say, I'm pretty happy with my Volvo since 2007.

Guys THANKS for all the comments. We just got back from our annual Dale Hollow trip and the kids and I had a great time playing around on the water with the new boat. New boats are great, but I am a bit anal with them so kids hated no shoes and snacks in the boat. LOL

Anyway, I read through all the comments. It was nice to see the Epic guys read these posts! They worked with me to get my boat to me prior to my trip so for that I am sooo thankful.

That being said I wanted to let you all know some answers. First.... Epic has decided not to go with the ONE BOAT ONE PRICE option anymore. I can't say I blame them but my 2011 was loaded and there were no "options" and it was just one set price. This boat was not that way. They now are like every other boat company and depending on your options pricing can change. My boat just to put in perspective had every bell and option they can do. We were in the low $70s just so you all can get a feel. Very much like every other company.

Seadeck - Just for the record I love it. I think that option alone is one of the best things a boat could have. You would be amazed how many people look at it and say "ah maybe" then they get on it and wonder why more don't have it on. I love it! Kids love it! Just feels good.

Color combo wasn't my idea - wish I could take credit. Epic talked me into that, in dealing with them I came to trust one of their people very much and he was a big believer it would look sick. Well, he was right. I got so many complements on the color combo and the fact that alot of people how no idea what an EPIC even is.

The WetSounds are just absolutely crazy. I love the speakers where they are. People look and point all the time. The actual use of them is even better IMO. Why hit your head on speakers when they can just be there. Just plain cool and very functional.

I do think EPIC is building boats for RIDING and not really worring about if it looks perfect or not. These boats are for serious riders. (FYI - I am not!! lol ) But someday my kids may be or I will grow a set and try more stuff. Anyway, for those of you who can ride this is the boat to ride behind. The wake just STOCK - (I didn't ride with ANY ballast in it) was much bigger than anything else out there. When filled I can't even imagine what this does. The 8.2 Merc is much better than the 8.1 in every way. Crazy to think that but I have had them both and the 8.2 sounds like a jet engine when it starts pulling and just is amazing.

I agree on the picklefork actually. I know alot hate them but I love them and would love to see EPIC do that as well as a few addon. (Filler Cushion would be first then a wind dam)

Oh and you should see the hindges they use for their surf compartments. Talk about strong!

Anyway, great boat! Great Wake and just sick looking. Price about the same as any other top competitor so why not look at EPICs.....

Just my 2 cents.....

WRONG! YUP! $70,000+ is where this boat comes in at.

But seriously, I will be buying a boat sometime in the next year and I have been looking at my options for over a year already. Epic has been on top of my list even though I haven't had the chance to drive or ride behind one. However - I gotta say that the sudden increase in price is a turn off for me.

When you say that the base model is still "heavily loaded" what are you referring to?

I am trying to justify this HUGE increase upwards of $20,000. One of the main reasons I liked this boat was the no "frills" wake boat idea. I am not really in to the bling crap and thought this was a great option for those who did not want that but still wanted a great wake boat. Hence the lower price point. Axis A22 is another example of this.

If I am going to spend $70k+ on a boat then I probably WOULD want all the fancy stuff that should come with it. To me - it's like paying for a fully loaded Ferrari but getting vinyl seats and a cassette player. Does that make sense? I am not knocking Epic OR your boat but my opinion has definitely changed over night about this boat. From a kick a$$ wake boat at a great price point to just another over priced boat joining the ranks with the rest.

Also - what is the deal with the swim platform? Just an optical illusion?

That is part of the reason I mentioned fit and finish to be substandard. It looks like the platform was cut out freehand and the pad on it doesn't lineup.
Old    ScottRobinson            06-14-2011, 8:48 AM Reply
Your points are well taken guys! I agree on some of the finish work. I believe they rushed this boat. I do think that they will fix all this and make it right. I know they read this and can't believe they will let this go. I think the new plant and new guys are part of it, they are learning. I do think that they will fix all this and make it right. The price increase is just part of it. I think with anything, prices go up. There was never a time you could get these boats for 50k. Just can't happen. These are $70k boats but heck an Axis loaded out is more like $60. And this is more boat for 10k more money. So just a thought. I am not knocking Axis at all, and really like them but the two boats just are way different.

As you all I am disappointed in the "finish" of the boat, but being first and I think they rushed it so they could get it to me for my trip I can understand some of it. I do think they will step up (they always have) and make it right.

One thing about these guys you have to understand is they are real people with real values. I know they will not want a disappointed customer. They rushed it so I could have a boat for my trip I think. That was good, yet a few things suffered. It will be fixed, as the people there are great to deal with. Thanks for all the comments. Keep them coming.

If you haven't ridden behind one....wow.... you should! Wake stock is huge much less with ballast in it.

I am not counting them out - just talking out loud. I am sure they will make it right. I live in TN and have ZERO local dealer support so I am interested in how they straighten you out.

For me - I like simple designs when it comes to graphics

Old    Mike G (MikeyG)      Join Date: Apr 2010       06-14-2011, 9:27 AM Reply
If you are really wanting opinions.......... What the hell are the grab bars for other than making room for a smaller cooler?

I love the Samson Tower - glad they kept that

Love they can come with WetSounds now. Can they come with no stereo at all?

Can you still get the square platform? I don't really surf and I never like the one on my buddies older SAN 210

How come they made these changes and never developed a Wind Dam or Bow Filler Cushion?????????????? Everyone who gets one immediately tries to figure something out to make these items. They should have been on top of that IMO. Those are 2 creature comforts that should NOT have been overlooked.

Another would be the FAE system. Why not? come on.

How about multiple graphic options??? Why the heck not??? Another VERY easy fix.

The faux carbon fiber dash could be a lot nicer. Mold it slightly different and include some cheap machined aluminum accents.
The edge stripping also looks like a cheap and easy fix. Like the chrome crap you get from AutoZone you see teenagers putting on their car doors to look cool. I think they could come up with something better.

I think that the boat is close to being really sweet. They just fell short in a few places. I was willing to overlook their short comings until the price got jacked up. Now I expect a lot more out of them.
Old    ScottRobinson            06-14-2011, 9:46 AM Reply
LOL.....I hear you..

You can get no stereo....FAE is in the works I was told

Graphics...well your stuck

Wind Dam and filler cushion..yeah you got me....why they don't I don't know but I agree they should.

Platform....not sure about but I think you would like it when you got it.
Grab bars....have NO idea..... thought I liked them but no one ever rides up there except my kids and they can't reach them. so who knows.

PM me if you have anymore questions.

The grab bars are there for 2 purposes.

1. Legally you need to have a place where people can hold on to while they are sitting up front. Those bars take care of that.

2. Those bars will be the support for the playpen / wind dam cushion.

I stand behind my previous pricing blurb.

52k -62k will get you in a 5.7ltr Merc. So no, I wasn't WRONG just forgot about the 8.2ltr, which is an option. Scott went for the 8.2 which will add that extra $10k. (I think closed loop is in there also).

Standard for the base price range $52k:
- NO headunit (use your mp3, ipod plugged into the WS420 input)
WS i-pod cable
WS SNY-4 amp
WS SS65 speakers 8 total
WS XS-10FA sub
WS eq
The tower
The wake Plate
5.7ltr Mercruiser
14.25" prop
The fast fill system - stock 3600lbs ballast.
mirror

Options:
- heater
- gps speed contorl (Smart Tow)
- swivel board racks
- cover
- tower mirror
-uber WS system.
-8.2ltr

Trailer adds to the price - I just bought a new aluminum for $4000. I have no clue what EPIC is asking for one.

Graphics - there are some different ones out there for simplicity. Mikey - for what you are looking for, you can get done at your local graphix shop on the cheap, IF Epic doesn't have it available.

Platform - I surely hope you can get an old style one.

I was trying to sell my 2007 to get a 2012. But then I remembered I don't want to pay for a boat and help my oldest with college. My 2007 will be paid for very soon, which I could get all fancy like Scott there, man I got my priorities all screwed up.

Scott are you seeing and difference between the 8.1 and the 8.2? Did the fuel economy go up or down with the cats? What about smell when wakesurfing?
Old    ScottRobinson            06-14-2011, 11:12 AM Reply
Chris,
Yeah I saw a difference between the two for sure. The 8.2 sounds so much different (just a cool thing) but preforms much different as well. The torque is higher but I think the way they set up the computer is much better. The ratio's for the pull are better now than they were. Before there was almost too much torque coming out of the water. Now you can dial that back which is nice. Don't get me wrong it is still there, you just don't have to use it.

Gas - well, I think this one is better but it was really hard to tell. I filled it and had 100% fuel. Put it on the trailer with 1% fuel. So we ran 99% of it out and we ran for 14.1 hours on the dot. Not sure if that is better or worse but it is what it is.

Smell, didn't notice. My 2011 had an FAE on it. (loved but hated at same time) It threw the wake off a bit and wash a side out and I could never dial it in. This boat the wake is perfect without the FAE. So I won't be adding one this time. Sounds mean and isn't too loud. So I like it without. Did notice some smoke while starting the pull but when surfing didn't smell it a bit. So I was happy.
Old    ScottRobinson            06-14-2011, 11:12 AM Reply
Fred - Is right on on pricing.....why would you want this boat without the 8.2??????
Old    Fred (olmoomba)      Join Date: Apr 2010       06-14-2011, 11:24 AM Reply
From what I hear the 5.7 is plenty adequate when prop'd correctly.

Regarding your powerband - did you have your smart tow dialed in for the take off to be less torquey? You can set the strength of the hole shot there on your smart tow.

50gals of fuel in 14hrs = 3.57gal/hr. Not to shabby. I think I get close 3gal/hr, using 2000lb +/- ballast, 23mph, not falling "alot". That's 1/2 tank in 6hrs +/-, never going over 30mph to cruise on my Volvo 8.1ltr with 425hp upgraded cam.

#2 cancels out #1.....

I am guessing those numbers are going to increase a whole lot when he starts using the ballast. this is from his earlier post

The wake just STOCK - (I didn't ride with ANY ballast in it) was much bigger than anything else out there. When filled I can't even imagine what this does.

I personally think the 5.7 would struggle some with the 4k in ballast that the Epics come with. Even with the right prop.

its that 8.2ltr at 10grand that puts it over the 62. Yes, you would be right on with the 52k-72k. I get what you're saying....haha.

Hence the reason they are offering up the 8.2 as an option. Previously, if you think about it, the 5.7ltr has proven itself very capable in other tow boats using lots of extra weight. By making it the stock engine, I figure it keeps them nice and competitive and out of the sticker shock cross hairs.

IMO - the number one reason why folks considered EPIC just as expensive as the rest, is that what is an option now used to be standard on every EPIC boat. When you get ready, I will sell you my 2007 and you won't have to pay that 72k, but you won't get WS either or the fast fill or the mid ship cleats or foam floor or molded one piece deck or mercruiser or smart tow, lol. You will get all the options above minus what I just listed, a gnarly new aluminum c-channel trailer, kicker system, low hour engine and fickle perfect pass.

Is that the MSRP or the price people are paying for them? The actual vs msrp varies by a huge amount on every boat I have ever looked at and I have never seen anyone pay msrp. The Epic is a lot of bang for the buck! So if $72k is full msrp with every option, that's a pretty sweet deal for a 23' wakeboard boat!

The best place to get fuel consumption figures is boat test.com.That's if they tested your model and year. They usually only test models when something has changed from previous year model. Also they do tests at different rpm's and with different engine options.

I agree with the fact that since I am not filling ballast to ride the hours will go down some. I do surf alot however on this trip we didn't ...maybe 2 hours. So I assume surfing more and filling ballast to ride will decrease fuel.

The whole debate on the engine to me is pointless. (although I don't use ballast HA) Most people who would buy this boat would use the full ballast to ride so there for you would want the big engine to pull. Yes it is an expensive option but one that you just can't live without IMO. This still kicks the crap out of a Malibu, Mastercraft or anything else out there at what you get for the price. Where else can you get a 8.2 23' boat with 4000# of ballast with 16 WetSound speakers in the boat for $70k? And to boot it throws a serious wake for the serious rider or can throw a big wake for guys like me. To me that is why I bought it. BIG BOAT, nice stereo and I can sell it anytime for close to what I paid. There just aren't any out there. Unlike the big 3 where they are everywhere. Just my 2 cents.....

I know alot of people will hate this boat for the price or love it. I just fell in love with them and now am on my second one. Maybe in a year I will be in a 2013 and this will be for sale!! =)
