So today at cruising speed around 30. We herd a weird noise (cant describe it). I turned of the engine, and opened the engine compartment, and there was alot of smoke. We looked around for a minute until we found the drive belt ripped to pieces. I'm guessing the engine heated up because the alternator wasn't working the water pump?

Has this happened to anyone before? If so how much did it cost to fix, and what could have caused this?

Can be caused by the raw water pump impeller disintegrating and jamming in the housing, this then causes the pulley to stop turning and as the drive belt keeps traveling over the jammed pulley it overheats due to friction so check that all the pulleys spin freely.
