Well I'm sure many of you have run into this problem before. I had a stereo remote mounted on the transom and one of two things was always happening. Someone either put there legs on it and stopped the music or changed the channel or it would get wet a couple times and quit working.
stock remote
So I decided it was time to go!
Remote hole
The next question was what to do with the hole?
Well I think I came across the perfect solution! lol
beer tap

Haha, thats awesome.

exceot the longer you stay out and ride the lower your ballast will get

These are the parts I used to make a kegerator on my boat!

5 Gallon round ice chest
ice chest

about 50ft of stainless tube coiled
coiled tube

a co2 tank
co2 tank

tap and misc. fittings and hoses, by the way, the stock radio remote hole (for the sony rm-xm10) is the same exact size for the handle to fit thru so no cutting or drilling!
fittings

And of course your going to need a keg full of beer! Haven't gotten that yet! Any volunteers? lol Well put a few more pics of the brackets I made once I get them back from powdercoating and show you the complete install!

P.S. I know some of you are going to give me crap for doing this because it isn't pure wakeboarding but have you ever lifted a full keg and a full co2 bottle? It's ballast! lol

Here's to foamy beer! I like the idea, but do you think it'll be worth all the work? It'd be perfect for your local party cove, but boarding??? I think you'll find that the keg is going to slush around too much while riding.

I know exactly what your talking about.... I disconnected my transom remote for that reason!

We've brought the keg along for the cove before as well.... just never did it like that! Good thinking... until one of the dancing girls slips and kicks the thing off :-(

transom remotes suck! beer rocks! you can really only use that on cove days. full keg putt on over to cove and party! but the foam will be a problem if you were trying to wakeboard. you get an a- for thinking outside the box. and even when your not using it it will look good and get plenty of looks. too bad they quit making the party balls and personal kegs that would be perfect. i think i will stick to cans.
Old    BMG (wackbag)      Join Date: Feb 2009       04-26-2009, 4:44 PM Reply
A friend of mine has a wireless remote that works from the beach when his boat is anchored. I think the new Nautiques come with them too. It will work with Alpine and Kenwood and a couple other decks. I know it won't work with Pioneer. So much more convenient then the transom remote too. It floats also.

Pure Genius!!! I love BEER!!! The foam comments are probably correct...drink fast!

Last year I took two kegs out just strapped them to the swim deck and never had any problems with foam. But then again I didn't go boarding or hit any double-ups! The keg set-up is for those weekends when you just want to go to the party cove and hang out. Plus it gets alot of attention I think between this and the stripper pole we'll have all the girls on the lake wanting to hang out on the boat! lol

Yup, guilty here... I had 643 hours on my '06 SAN before I gave it to my brother and 428 hours on my '08 Malibu... Yup, I'm a boring guy.

I just think that boating and drinking don't mix very well. Here in AZ the 100+ degree sun beating down on you makes you silly drunk in no time. I'll see if I can find the pictures of the girl with her leg cut off crying and with her mangled leg bobbing up and down in the water next to her. They are very boring pictures though. The guy that ran her over said he only had three beers. He didn't remember drinking over a case in a couple of hours... I would bet the girl remembers..

^you can party on a boat as long as the driver stays sober. You ASSUME with your response that he will be irresposible, yet you don't know him from Adam.

Putting hours on your boat doesn't help. As stated above, its for chillin in a cove. Not getting wasted and pulling ppl around the lake.

I'm not relating his idea with his use. I assumed nothing about him. I talked about the idea in general, not about the user or the guy who thought it up. I didn't attack him, only the idea.

I don't care if you are driving the boat or passed out drunk in the boat, you are a liability to yourself and others.

The hours on my boat part was not directed to the idea at all, but the contention that I am boring. It's you guys that assumed, not me.

Well Sam my 2006 Malibu has 600 hours on her right now. I'm not a boring guy either and to be honest not the biggest drinker, in fact the last time I had an alcholic beverage was Christmas. But like many I enjoy staying sober and watching the drunks make idiots out of themselves. Sorry to dissapoint you, I unfortunatly have yet to get a DUI or run anybodies legs off. Boating and alchol can mix as long as you behave responsibly and always maintain a sober driver. I knew when I posted this somebody would go off down this tangent. Oh well to each there own.

Sam, I put 60 hours this summer (in 4 rainy months....bleh!) on my 210 and I don't think I had more than 3 beers in my whole summer. some of my friends did get trashed on my boat, but I was the one driving the boat and DRIVING them back home. booze is good as long as you're not the one driving. And before u ask , I didn't ride much because of an ankle injury.
I do agree that drunk drivers should be severely punished...
peace, love and be safe out there.

Again, I'm not relating the hours on my boat to anything but the fact that I'm not a boring guy, enough said about that.

I also think that some people can drink on the lake in responsible manner. I do however think that even if you are not driving, and you get drunk on a boat, you are a liability to yourself and the driver.

The main reason why I think this is a stupid idea is that no matter how responsible you are with your booze, the guy next to you that sees the beer tap gets the idea that "Hey, it's cool to get drunk at the lake... Awesome! I'm going to get one of those too." IMO it's represents boating and more importantly wakeboarding in a very, very bad light. At the gas station people will see the tap, see the speakers on the tower and draw their own conclusions about it regardless if you are responsible or not...

Attack me all you want, like you have been, I have attacked no one, just the idea. Just remember me when someone in your community is pushing for a ban on wakeboarding on your local lakes.

I agree with Sam. What you do on your boat is your business, but when it could possibly affect me it becomes my business. I don't know how many times some drunk idiots have driven by way to close while I'm trying to pull my friend or little sister.

Plus first impressions are everything. If the guy at the gas station, or a person on the road sees you, what is he supposed to think? Wakeboarders don't have the greatest reputation.

I don't know what the rules are at your lake, but some of the lakes around here do not allow alcohol on the water or around the boats. If they catch you, you get the equivalent of a DUI.

Either people drink from a can...a bottle... or a tap. Their is always going to be people drinking on the water. They still haven't stopped people from drinking and driving cars. It's just something were going to have to live with.

I do agree that drunk people on a boat are by far the worst. No more invites for that person.

Did you ever think something like tower speakers could have a role is some cases like this. They see and hear tower speakers on wake boats and think how can we get rid of these jokers. A noise ordinance is harder to enforce so they go after other things to stop wakeboarders from coming to certain lakes. Ignorance and carlessness will take away the privledges we have on many lakes in the near future. After many of the threads on WW lately it sounds like a lot of people are saying "F U I will play it how I want." Well keep it up and wakeboarding will turn out how other sports have been limited.

He can take the "cool idea" comments as well as the "lame idea" comments. I doubt that Robert is going to pull the keg and tap and replace it with the non-working transom control just because Sam thinks it is lame.

Robert- very clever.

Sam- your arguments are valid and you express them intelligently.

You couldn't be farther from fact. I'm a hard core Libertarian. I believe that anyone should be able to do anything at anytime as long as it doesn't impede on someone else's right to do the very same.

This ideal requires great responsibility for ones own actions. Unfortunately lots of people are not responsible for their own actions and don't think they should be.

I've actually beat more photo radar tickets in Arizona and California than anyone that I know. I don't believe that I necessarily have the right to speed, but I do have the right to proper enforcement of the law, the ability to face my accuser, equal enforcement of the law, etc. as provided by the 14th amendment..."no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law." I also believe that the current photo radar system that we have in both California and Arizona violates the 6th amendment, which provides that the accused have a right to a speedy indictment. With photo radar the notice for the ticket can arrive up to 180 days later.

You Mr. Fischer are dead wrong.

Sweet idea!!!

What does the cooler and stainless steel coil do? I'm assuming it's some type of cooler, but how does it work?

Is the purpose to run the beer through the tubing while the cooler is filled with ice water to avoid keeping the whole keg iced down?

Have you tested it yet? How cold will it get the beer if the keg is not cooled at all?

Again, sweet idea.. If people are crawling over your boat at the cove, you might need to try and design some type of break away to avoid damage.
Old    Robert Mitchell (2006maliblue)      Join Date: Mar 2009       04-28-2009, 7:27 PM Reply
The cooler with the stainless steel cooler cools the beer. It works great. While I haven't tested this particular set up yet last year I took a keg and jockey box to the lake, same concept, and it worked killer. Beer comes out ice cold. The igloo cooler you fill up with ice and thats what cools the beer. One thing I'm incorporating into the cooler is a shut off valve in the boat so when the boats unattended or when I need too or want too I can stop the flow of beer. Plus if I hit a wake i don't have to worry about the valve opening and shooting all the beer out.

On another note, Sam I know this idea is not for you, but for me, I'm responsible with alchol and have no problem taking on the burden and responsibility that comes with it. To each there own.

I spent hours researching this topic. I typed it out and read it over and over. I had others read it, one a professor, so here it is.

Dam I just spilt my beer all over it and I am too drunk to remember what I wrote.

Seriously I wouldn't put a beer tap on the back of my boat, not because I wouldn't want beer at the back of my boat, but I would not want marine patrol to have any reason to bother me. I actually think you shoud have two taps. Screw on the beer one while rafting and put on the I love cops one while underway.

Sam, I'm assuming you are using the logic that if someone has a beer tap on their boat they are drunk. When you see a porshe do you assume they are speeding? When you see a pickup with rifles in the back window do you assume they are killers. If we added an amendment to the constitution that all people have the right to bear kegs in their boat, would that make it any better. You seem to like the constitution when and where it benifits you, but if we start taking away more and more freedoms the constitution will not be worth the paper it is written on. The best part of america is people are free to put beer taps behind their boats. If this brings him more attention then he wanted and on that day he may have had one too many then he will be well versed on the 14th amendment.
Here's to a fun safe boating season
Should I toast with alcohol?Dam spilt my beer again.

I don't think you'd have an issue if you cooled the whole keg but jockey box setups are prone to foam to begin with because the warm beer hits the cooling lines and the fluid contracts, forcing out some CO2 in the line. I'd be interested to see how this works out.

On my boat, I've hauled my two torpedo kegs full of homebrew. I cool the entire keg though (an easy feat for a 5 gallon) and have had to combat foaming to a small degree. As a general rule, it won't foam much more than your unopened bottles or cans after the first beer or two. What works for me is to jack up the CO2 pressure the night before to the 20's and then serve at lower pressure than I normally would at like 3-4 psi for the first few beers. Then adjust to normal. That 3-4 is assuming a cobra tap. If you're running a line to a tap you may have to bump that a bit. That's not just for boating. I do that any time I expect to put a significant dent in the kegged beer.

Do keep in mind that the Fuzz will not be amused. They may go all Kojak on you.

What ever happened to reading comprehension?

I have stated at least twice in this thread that I don't relate having the tap to being drunk in this thread.

I'm not relating his idea with his use. I assumed nothing about him. I talked about the idea in general, not about the user or the guy who thought it up. I didn't attack him, only the idea.

I believe that you should be able to do anything you want, to each his own, but I also believe that this is a stupid thing to put on a boat and is irresponsibly promoting alcohol on boat and image that wakeboarders are drunks.

I think his thought process of the idea itself is good, anytime you have a "problem" and can solve that problem with your own ingenuity, more power to you!

I challenge you to give me any arguments regarding the Constitution... I spent 2 years straight studying it and think I know it pretty well.

I would have thought ""Thats bad ass!!!!!!!"" too when I was in my late teens and early 20s. I can appreciate the creativity and see the 'Harold and Kumar' like appeal of having a tap on the transom, but tend to think more like Sam now. From a functional aspect, it just seems like it would be in the way and be too easy to break if you were actually going to use the the boat to ride. To each their own though.

Great idea with one real big draw back, it will attract the attention of the rangers, and you'll get hassled. Other than that I love it.
