I know technically this should go in the boat thread, but I need some advice by next weekend and wanted some traffic on this thread.

I found a deal on a 2000 Sunsetter VLX. Does anybody have this boat and if so how is the wake?

I know in those years there were only subtle differences between the wake and diamond hulls, but for the most part the sunsetter and wakesetter had the same hull.

It is a V-drive, and I'll plan to run about 2K in ballast. There is no wedge, is this something I should consider adding?

I've ridden an 03 wakesetter a few times, with 1200 ballast and 8 people, no wedge. Wake was great. How similar will this boat be.

If anyone has this boat and has pics of the wake please post them, along with your experience.

I'm going to look at the boat next saturday.
Thanks in advance for any help.

-Dustin

the 2000 wakesetter is sick. deffiantely no need to run a wedge in that boat if your going to run 2k of ballast. the wake will be very similar to the 03 you rode behind but a little wider and depending on how you weight it slightly steeper. 2000 wakesetter still one of my favorite boats of all time

Jason, thanks for your feedback. Just to clarify, this is the 00 sunsetter, not wakesetter.

I'm told by the local Malibu dealer that the differences are very subtle. Was looking for anyone that had ridden the sunsetter specifically.

A friend bought the Sunsetter back around 2000 after test riding the Wakesetter and was very disappointed. Wake on the Sunsetter fully loaded seemed good to me, but he really was bummed. Not sure exactly why, though. That's all I know.

I have a 96 Sunsetter VLX. It is the same SV23 ("wake") hull as the Wakesetter VLX thru 04, and then the Vride after that. The only Sunsetter VLX that got the SV23 Diamond hull was the 2001 year model. All previous SSVLX got the wake hull, and then 2001 was the last year they used the SSVLX name.

I second rodney on that the sunsetter and wakesetter are the same hulls. I was told the same. Same boat minus all wakeboard associated stuff(tower, ballast, wedge, graphics) unless they added them, or ordered that way. I have an older sunsetter, and it does the job, dont use much ballast yet, so not sure about 2k. A solid boat.

Dustin, do a quick search on the diamond hull. While it was not an option back then, it would be wise to obtain an understanding of the differences. Ahh, I did a search for yah, here is the link http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/3183/479797.html

Here is a pic of my 00 wakesetter with approx 2500 lbs of weight. Rider is at 75 ft back riding approx 24mph. No wedge. FWIW I prefer 80ft, and around 26ish; hence the weight.
