Im getting hte pop and making the rotation (probably too much rotation), but I pull halfway to revert (ts backroll to retard as my friends call it).

I think its happening because im opening up at the wake. Should I turn the board away from the boat like a hs backroll?

tip that really helped me was in ur edge put ur back forearm against ur stomach...keep ur arm there for almost the full rotation and this will deff help you from opening just really want to keep the handle super close to ur front hip

I just learned to do ts b-rolls with an indy... that way you're not getting pulled to revert.

what trevor you're leaving the wake suck your knees up to your chest and reach down for that indy grab...concentrate on getting the grab and the rotation will be there...i learned these with the grab and it just seemed easier to me than not grabbing..

This one is confusing me too. Everyone says to add in the indy grab to make the roll easier. I can't get it into my head that reaching in the opposite direction i'm trying to spin... that that will help me. Someone explain please.

Bert - It's not like you're reaching in the opposite direction. I think it's more just reaching out in front of you and your board comes up to meet your hand. You flip with bringing your knees into your chest, then get the grab, and then throw your head back to complete the rotation.

I don't do these but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night!

ok, so Ive just decided to ahead and try ts roll to reverts. what do yall think? not enough line tention so im under rotating?

there is backroll at the end as well, just so you get an idea of how I do thoes.

how bad does the learning curve hurt?
can't afford any broken bones....just saw the pics in the other thread

dj youre coming off your edge and youre not keeping the handle close enough to your hip. take a few big ts jumps into the flats with a progressive edge then throw the trick and keep the handle low. if youre still not getting it edge the board a little further away from the boat. learn these before you take them to revert. when you want to take them to revert, AFTER you learn them regular, just remove your front hand and pull the handle to your rear hip as you start to get inverted.

cliff these dont hurt at all go for it!!!

so far, my attempts have not hurt at all *knock on wood*. But my very first try, I landed board to board, and that helps in not getting worked.


your right, I should learn it without the 180 first, and I really want to, but I keep opening up after I leave the wake, so it naturally does the 180. After ~10 tries or so, I just said f-it, ill run with the roll to re. Figured if I can get the air awarness down for 1 ts invert, the other varients will be easier.

Just keep trying, that's what I did and I finally landed it. Very important (same as HS Backroll): edge progressively, don't leave your edge, edge all the way through the wake, concentrate on taking off by standing tall at the very top of the wake. Really avoid leaving early (you may experience back breaking crashes...). Then, that means after you've left the wake, initiate the rotation. Keep the handle in close to your lead hip through the rotation. You will have a clean landing on your TS edge, edging away from the boat smiling like a champ. Those are really worth lerning cause they're fun

alan plotz i just blew my knee out doing one of these 4 weeks ago so they can be a little painful sometimes i guess

Jeff, sorry to hear about your injury. Heal up soon.

DJ, I couldnt gather whether or not you can do a solid TS w2w jump? I have a friend who can only do a TS w2w 180, not a ts w2w, is this your situation? If so I would suggest getting the TS w2w down first.

With that said, think progressive edge, DO NOT huck it, and keep the handle in tight for control.

ya, im sold on my ts's into the flats, and can grab several varieties. Although when I get tired/lazy I tend to come in back foot heavy.

when I do a backroll, I kinda pop off my leading foot, so I pretty front foot heavy. This pops me up. When I pop off the rear foot, I do a low, fast roll. Same thing with the TS version I imagine?

DJ, I come in very back foot heavy on my TS Roll and TS R2R. The only trick that has more front foot weight are my TS trip flips (crow) and TS OA 5's. I can totally see why you would be going TS r2r with front foot heavy. My buddy had the same problem, where he would huck the TS backroll and usually not even go w2w. There were a few things that helped him. Waiting for the pop, pushing off his toes to initiate the spin, and pushing his hips to the sky. Make sure you ride UP the wake, creating the flip. Most people that huck them low and fast spin off the wake, like they are slipping on a banana peel. Handle control is key on this trick, if you have the handle real close, it helps with landing on your toes and adjusting in the air. If you can see your going to short the rotation a pull on the handle will get you around, If you are over-rotating, you can let the handle out to slow you down.

The first one you get right, you will know. It will be pretty effortless and smooth. It will also feel like you wait forever before initiating the rotation.

I landed my first TS backroll like three weeks ago. Landed it, but didn't land it perfectly on my TS edge edging away from the boat. After I had landed another one the next time I went out on the river (after like 5 tries), a friend told me I had a problem with my TS w2w jumps: I edged progressively allright, but I rode up the wake like I would ride up a transition on a skateboard shifting more weight to my rear foot which made my board go up and in front of me. I cured it like this: I simply stopped switching my weight. I started coming in with more weight on my front foot with a progressive edge and popped from the top of the wake by standing tall. After a couple tries I had these dialed with good air and way into the flats, with the board level in the air and landing clean on my TS edge. Then I tried the TS Backroll again with the same approach, just with loading the line a little more on my approach. I stuck it first try with a very nice rotation and a perfect landing on my TS edge. It seemed effortless and th landing was totally smooth. So my suggestion is: Try to perfect your technique on your TS w2w jumps. Then again, be sure to always pop straight up from the top of the wake, then start your rotation after you have clearly left the wake.
