how often do you wax your boat?
How often and what wax do you use?

dru1974 06-13-2010 10:16 AM

I wax once a month during the season, it seems to keep the hardwater stains down

crill23 06-13-2010 11:02 AM

Is it bad to wax over hard water stains? Should I do an acid bath first? which would be at the end of the season.

dru1974 06-13-2010 11:18 AM

we hav e had three other ski boats and i have seen over the years that the people that apply acid and viniger and other strippers often tend to have oxidation problems in the future, i would sooner have some small hardwater marks that you can only see under close inspection than oxidation any day, just elbow grease and some wax for me....

Just did the first wax on my boat...I used West Marine boat soap to wash it and then Meguiar's Flagship Wax. REALLY impressed with the Flagship. It's expensive ($20 for the small bottle), but well worth it IMO.

Wax twice a year. Use Hot Sauce everytime I pull out if the water. I have always used 3m marine wax but, I am going to try BoatBling Pro Sauce. Their Hot Sauce works so good.

I wax about every 4 weeks. Been using Meguire's Flagship with great success. As soon as my bottle runs out, I'm going to use Driven's finish restore to remove surface scratches, followed up with Driven's Marine Polish, and start using Driven's Quick Spray as a wipe down. These products were recommended to me by a fellow Supra owner, so I'm going to give them a shot.

maybe once or twice a year. Use vinegar 50/50 to wipe down hull. Boat is 3 years old with all black hull still looks good.

ajholt7 06-13-2010 6:23 PM

Remember, Vinegar strips wax

1niceharley 06-14-2010 11:58 AM

Bought our boat new in January and have waxed it 2 times. I also use the 50/50 vinegar/water mix when the water spots will not come off but then follow with wax. When the boat doesn't feel slick any more, time for another wax job (and I wipe down the boat before we leave the ramp).

chilidog 06-14-2010 1:18 PM

I wax once a year, haven't really committed to a certain brand, seems like babes boat bling leaves a slick residue that would go on top of the wax anyways so just going to do that every time this year and see how I am at the end of the season. I find it crazy you guys have enough free time to wax once a month, usually takes me at least 3-4 hours.....

scottnaz 06-14-2010 2:29 PM

My boat sits in the garage, so I'll usually grab a couple beers from the fridge and wax a side of the boat, then do the other a couple nights later. Basically, an excuse to drink some beers and escape the house for a little while. When I stay on top of it, it really isn't that bad a job or take that long.

wakeviolater 06-14-2010 2:49 PM

i wax it daily with "babes boat bright".

mendo247 06-14-2010 3:10 PM

three times a month.. cheap ol turtle wax works best for me.

rugdr 06-14-2010 5:18 PM

Every other outing. Then I use a quick detail every time I pull it out of the water. Yes I sound anal, but my boat is solid black from the rub rail down and I want to keep it looking brand new.

wakesurfer08 06-15-2010 6:27 AM

We use Wax As U Dry, every time when we use the boat. And then full wax before winter storage.

blowhole 06-15-2010 6:34 AM

2x / yr. i bought my boat to use it not clean it

dirwoody 06-15-2010 7:19 AM

Just like Jeff -
Wax as you dry - EVERY TIME OUT OF THE WATER, then another full wax mid season and at winterization. It takes 5 minutes and we have owners of boats 8 years newer than ours asking what we're doing to it to keep it looking so good.

bill_airjunky 06-15-2010 8:35 AM

Almost never..... but we wipe it down all the time with a vinegar, water & Turtle Wax concoction that a fellow WW member shared with us. Keeps the boat looking good.

All times are GMT -7. The time now is 1:06 AM.
