Thoughts on 05 VLX
A buddy of mine is thinking about changing boats - from an 01 X-star (205V hull) to an 05 VLX w/new 400 HP engine and tranny, wedge, etc.
What's everybody's thoughts on this? good or bad move?

I am definately biased, but yea, I am pretty sure he would be very happy with the VLX. I recently got rid of my 05 VLX, with almost 800 hours in the 4 years I had it. Absolutely a fantastic boat, and I would take another one in a heartbeat. While the 01 X Star is a great boat, I really feel he would be making a nice change with the VLX. The 400hp is great, but I was more than satisfied with my 340hp, with an Acme 1235 prop. Plenty of go for everything we did.

Best of luck. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

+1. Absolutely fantastic boat! Got one back in '05 and it was unbelievable! However on the '05's and i think '06's the wedge had to be locked down all the way instead of how it is now because there was meant to be catastrophic possibilities from not locking the wedge down. As far as I know, now all the manual wedges don't lock down because it give a biger wake size :D So see if the hull will hold up to the pull from a non-locked down wedge
