How long till your first set?
The water temp thread got me wondering.....how long till your first ride?

I don't even want to hear it from you guys who are still riding, or crying that the water is only 40 degrees. This is for those who still can walk, or in many cases, drive their truck, across their lakes.

I know with the winter we've had, it's impossible to nail down dates....so at what point will you start riding?
My buddy says he won't get the boat out till the water hits 50, while I want to get out as soon as there's enough water to run the boat, and wouldn't mind jubbing some ice chunks! Just make sure I get the drysuit zipper all the way closed (I read the boat pranks thread too!)

mbsteez 03-03-2010 8:13 AM

Usually my first boat set is on the May long weekend at our cabin, but we'll see what happens this year. Might have some other options to get out earlier around home. Heading to FL on Friday for a week tho, so hopefully get in some cable sets. Apparently there is a cable in Fort Myers??

lfrider92 03-03-2010 8:13 AM

Ive ridden 7 times in 2010 so far. Going tomorrow to make number 8. Ive never seen our lake get below 51. One of the many perks of being in Nor Cal!

dakid 03-03-2010 8:14 AM

when it's 85 air temp and 75 water temp...then i'll ride. haha!

ajholt7 03-03-2010 8:15 AM

Sometime in May.

stang_killa_ss 03-03-2010 8:19 AM

two weeks! march 20th, current water temp 51*

tchs22 03-03-2010 8:20 AM

Will be at OWC in 2 weeks....then boat session 2nd weekend in April...cold doesnt bother me...my job affects my riding time =/

highrock 03-03-2010 8:21 AM

4 days....we are going wakeboarding then snowboarding the same day on March 7th. Wake N Flake!

cjh1669 03-03-2010 8:28 AM

Hoping for April 2nd if the weather and ice coroperate. It's in the high 50's today, with some 60's this week. If it stays that way for most of march I should be good. I do expect one more big snow storm in either march or april

downfortheride 03-03-2010 8:36 AM

It's funny my buddie David and I just set dates of Mar 20th or 21st, the lake is still more than half frozen but with these temps the open water is coming. Might not be the warmest but it will be the first set of 2010.

mc_x15 03-03-2010 8:40 AM

April 15th, tax day, Need somehtign to calm my nerves, haha. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

sidekicknicholas 03-03-2010 8:44 AM

Last year mine was 4-18, the year before was 4-20.... I'm guessing right around ther for me.

So maybe like 5/6 weeks

irishrider92 03-03-2010 10:17 AM

I think I may have the longest wait; june 25th!
Big school exams suck!

hawkeye7708 03-03-2010 10:22 AM

I'm hoping to get out between the 13th and 20th of this month over in Green Bay... may have to bust a lil' boat launch ice, but we're gonna try to get out there!

bcail 03-03-2010 10:26 AM

10 days if all goes well.

Donski 03-03-2010 10:46 AM

Hopefully this weekend in Northern Illinois. Supposed to be 45 and sunny. I saw some peeps riding last weekend, air was 32. Ridiculous!

blowhole 03-03-2010 11:26 AM

how do you ride in low 30's? wouldn't you worry about your boat getting damaged? i guess you pull it back to a heated garage. no thanks ill stick to snowboarding

jarrod 03-03-2010 11:36 AM

I'm with Joe. Bring on the summer for me!

wakesurfer08 03-03-2010 11:49 AM

Darin......Ok I will take the boat out at 48 degrees, but that's it. No ice JIBBING! :D

benjaminp 03-03-2010 12:17 PM

Last weekend in April. First day the park opens because the icebergs in Canada dont melt until then.

Revolution is located in Fort Myers, right near FGCU where a bunch of my friends and I go. Hit me up when you get in town, and I'll get all of us to head out to revolution and ride!

loudontn 03-03-2010 12:43 PM

Rule of 100!

When the Air Temperature + Water Temperature equals 100 or greater, you ride!

mattgettel 03-03-2010 1:01 PM

i like the rule of 100. i hope to be out in about 2 weeks.

eternalshadow 03-03-2010 1:26 PM

My first at home/home region set will not likely be until early to mid May.

dirwoody 03-03-2010 1:27 PM

So if it hits 68 I can ride right?

wakesurfer08 03-03-2010 1:35 PM

Darin, if water is 48 and air 52.....Then we can ride.

03-03-2010 1:39 PM

Mid MArch!!!! ITS GETTIN CLOSER AND CLOSER! waters still cold in BC but who gives a F***!!!!

wakecrzy2000 03-03-2010 2:06 PM

30 days! If the snowbank infront of the shed is melted.

sexyws6mama 03-03-2010 2:10 PM

I'm thinking early April for me.

pwningjr 03-03-2010 2:14 PM

I'll hopefully be out when air hits 60-65 degrees. I don't care about the water, because I don't have any way to measure it other than stick your hand in and see how long till it hurts!

mcb611 03-03-2010 2:15 PM

about a month and a half

mbsteez 03-03-2010 2:17 PM

Thanks man, I'll try to remember to do that. Is there any reason to bring my boat board down, or just slider board?

bill_sloan 03-03-2010 5:03 PM

We've gone out in March some years and other years, like last one we didn't get out till May 15th.
I'm up for boarding as soon as the ice is off. I've also trunked it in 40 degree water. Came out of the water nearly blue.

sidekicknicholas 03-03-2010 6:28 PM

^^ and balls the size of peas

captain_vilfo 03-03-2010 7:09 PM

when I get my brace for my surgically repaired knee! even if the lake is still frozen ill just have to go out and crack it

epic1 03-03-2010 8:54 PM

in Colorado, first set, probably at the Meet and greet, in early may. I got a dry suite so no excuses.
I am heading to Powell to work on the houseboat, and will bring the dry suite and boat, we will see, maybe early april, Bullfrog bay?

ajf4242 03-03-2010 10:53 PM

My first run will be this weekend behind a brand new a22 axis. The water is supposedly 50 and the air will be 52 and 58 on saturday and sunday. Should be interesting to see how the boat actually is and I will be wearing nothing but a top and boardshorts.

bmr82 03-04-2010 4:06 AM

I usually start about now, but won't be back in country unitl May. So lookin like around Memorial Day weekend for my first set. I can't wait.

themann39 03-04-2010 8:25 AM

I hope to be able to get out sometime in April. The lake still have about 18in. of ice on it last weekend but the weather is warming up so hopefully the ice will be off the lake soon.

soonerwake85 03-04-2010 8:49 AM

Hopefully 2-3 weeks here in OK. Water is still in the 40's but looking at some 60 degree days coming up

jps912 03-04-2010 2:16 PM

Hopefully this weekend if it doesnt rain. if it does hopefully next weekend

hockeysk8er222 03-06-2010 8:31 AM

It just needs to melt!!!!

boutwell_43 03-06-2010 12:13 PM

2nd set of the year.....Its nice in milton fl. 68-70 outside water 56. Be launching the boat in 15 min. The forecast for the next week all in the mid 70's.....

cmcxstar 03-06-2010 5:23 PM

I wish it were as simple as water and air temp for me. I have no idea of when the doc is going to clear me to ride. I'm not even supposed to be walking right now.

03-09-2010 1:33 AM

Well over here in Spokane Wa. we have been on the water twice. Water Temp 46 Air 57-59 spring is here

ian_ashton 03-09-2010 4:59 AM

Last year I started April 17th. I'm hoping to get out the first week of April this year, assuming the ice melts.

wakecumberland 03-09-2010 5:51 AM

Water temp 47. Still too cold for me! another 10 degrees and I'll be ready. Hopefully I'll get to ride on April 10th. One month to go!

KGar11 03-09-2010 11:22 AM

broke both of the bones in my forearm, got compartment sydrom so..... no idea

sippi 03-09-2010 2:11 PM

I'm hoping to get out this weekend. I would have been out earlier but I've been really busy and we've had an extremely cold and long winter (like most of the U.S.). I've been doing the regular maintenance stuff on the boat this week and plan on finishing it up on Saturday morning, maybe going out Saturday afternoon, but i have no idea at the Temp of our lake/river. I know there is a website out there that shows the temps for just about all the lakes and rivers in the US, but i don't know it. Does anybody know that website, or another one like it? Or I guess more importantly, does anybody know the water temp of the Pearl River in Brandon or Ridgeland, MS? Long shot i know, but i'd appreciate the help.

tsteeb 03-09-2010 4:41 PM

Probably about halfway through june, damn you school

ColoRadDude 03-13-2010 9:48 PM

My home lake opens April 11. It just thawed this week and it's warming up quite a bit...I'm planning on getting out opening day...hopefully?

03-14-2010 4:14 PM

Rode again today .. Water 42 air 46. But it's ridding and it's not bad must be getting use to it ... Love early season no jet skis tubers ... Just a few fishermen and they were being cool... But give that a few more times out and that mat change ....

garveyj 03-16-2010 9:58 AM

hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will get out - gotta find a dry suit first.

rmcronin 03-18-2010 3:50 PM

early May probably. In PA, used to start early April, not anymore.

downfortheride 03-18-2010 4:14 PM

T minus 3 days, the ice burned off this week and good weather in site for Sunday!!! UT session about to begin!

austin_the_wakeboard_man 03-23-2010 8:38 PM

Go bye the 100 rule:D i rode saterday in TN on cherokee lake the water was 57 the air was 70 i wore a shortie wetsuit it was nice to get the drysuit off :D

jdameron 03-24-2010 8:15 AM

Hmmm....lets see, it snowed 14 inches yesterday...so I am going to go with at least a month or two....:(

mc_x15 03-24-2010 8:19 AM

As long as this weather holds which its seems to be cooling down today. Prob less than a month

BigTEX 03-24-2010 9:03 AM

Already had 20 plus boat sets thanks to my new fullsuit.....

cjh1669 03-24-2010 9:34 AM

1 week and two days. Snowed over a foot last night, but it will be gone in a day or two. The lakes have zero ice on them, and it looks like next week starts out in the 60's. As long as that weather holds we'll be out next fri. Boat gets unwinterized next thurs!!!!

xmcmillenx 03-25-2010 2:16 PM

probably 3-4 weeks to go.

devildog_ra 03-25-2010 7:08 PM

i think......fingers are crossed. breath is not being held

cjh1669 03-25-2010 7:28 PM

Mine just moved one day closer, now it's next thurs

soonerwake85 03-26-2010 5:23 AM

Tuesday and Wednesday next week are supposed to hit 76 and 80 degrees respectively. Water is still high 40's because of the snow storm that left 3" on the ground last weekend.

devildog_ra 03-26-2010 8:32 AM

West texas wind is gonna delay my first set! 20-25mph, air temp 76-80, water temp prob 50

bruizza 03-26-2010 1:33 PM

It will be late April or early May before I get my first set in. We are supposed to get some more snow tonight in Denver...... At least I get a long snowboarding season.

Bakes 03-26-2010 10:19 PM

Can't beat spring skiing. Just get a drysuit and man up. Even my 5 y/o isn't afraid of a little cold H2O. Although I have to say, that it cramps my style to ski with numb feet. Already got 10hr on the boat this season. We are near Tacoma WA

pickle311 03-29-2010 8:34 AM

2 more weeks, I'm pulling the boat out this weekend it clean it and get it ready to go. Next weekend it goes in the water. Hope it still floats.

norcalbordr 03-30-2010 8:39 AM

7-8 weeks :( I tore some ligaments in my ankle about a month ago at Squaw snowboarding. i just started physical therapy last week and they told me I should be back to normal in 2 months. Better that than out for the season. Sucks though. I'm so ready now.

blowhole 03-30-2010 8:45 AM

2 months ny water is 37

norcalbordr 03-30-2010 8:50 AM

If it was that cold here in Cali I wouldn't be so upset about it. But its been up in the high 70's and sunny (except for today a small storm rolled in so its colder this week).

benjaminp 03-30-2010 9:30 AM

24 days

wakesurfer08 03-30-2010 9:44 AM

Water temp at Fremont State lakes in Fremont Nebraska last night was 47..

pickle311 03-30-2010 10:49 AM

Man, I wish I could go out today. Water is 60, air is 82. It's supposed to hit 86 tomorrow and will be raining by the weekend as usual.

devildog_ra 03-30-2010 3:34 PM

well thought today was the day air 91* water 57* little breezy, put the xstar in the water, i got in the water, got pulled out of the water then....puuttt putt put the boat dies!!!!! think its the fuel pump. now i have no idea when my first set will be

dh03r6 03-30-2010 3:47 PM

Going tomorrow in MN

stephan 03-30-2010 4:59 PM

Not to be a jerk but this weekend will be the 4th weekend in a row I've gone riding. It has helped that the water has risen to the low 60s and is very comfortable in my long sleeve spring. it sure feels nice to be in mid-season form and its not yet April! Thank you California for all that you provide!

rnopr8 03-30-2010 9:55 PM

Never had my last set.......water low was 48 this winter and is now mid to high 60's.

lseghatch 03-30-2010 10:02 PM

I was hoping the cable would be open on thursday (WI) because it's supposed to be 78 and I can trunk that even if the water temp is low.

cjh1669 04-02-2010 9:01 AM

Got out yesterday, but didn't have the cajones to actually get in with the sun behind the clouds for most the day. Tomorrow will be a much warmer and sunnier day, so I will get a set in then.

All times are GMT -7. The time now is 2:32 AM.
