I got a new boat and trailer going from a flat four to a flat five. The new trailer has LED lights and when I plug them in the tail lights flicker on and off almost like the hazzards are on. I turn on the head lights and they stay on steady. I haven't checked voltage at the plug but it didn't happen with the flat four. Anyone know what is causing this?

maybe that's some kind of safety feature. like daytime running lights. random thought. probably not.

Is the tow vehicle factory wired or added? If added check to see that it is wired correctly. Are you using an adapter?

Check this out

http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx

Scroll down until you see the trailer wiring color code chart.

I hope this helps.

Yeah the car had the round seven and I use an adaptor to the flat 5

I have seen alot of Europian cars with this issue, might have to take it to the factory to get it fixed..

www.gonnasonboats.com

What are you using for a tow vehicle?

Could be that the trailer lights aren't grounded, or are trying to ground through the receiver hitch. Make sure the harness on the car has the ground wire hooked up.

sounds like my buddies RangeRover. It expects resistance from the trailer lights as if they were incandescent lights. The LEDs don't provide the expected resistance and the system freaks out. He had to have his modified to work with his trailer, I think they added resistors to his trailer?

Yeah its a Land Rover and I was thinking it had something to do with the LED vs incandescent bulbs. The LR3 noticed when the old trailer was on and switched to trailer mode I dont get that now with the LED lights on the new trailer. Can you see if you buddy knows what value resistors were used and where they were wired into the system? Thanks

I figured it really didn't make a difference what color they were since they wouldn't be in plain sight...I would rather have had the black.
