Hey guys im trying to get my surf wake dialed ! Its a 08 VLX and i cant get it correct IMO what you guys think. We are new maybe its the technique but we can get the wake to push us ..... what did you guys change in that wake ?

What weight where? What speed?

From the looks I would say more in the front and maybe a bit faster. You should really post this in the wakesurf forum, those guys are SERIOUS about dialing boats in.

(Message edited by Ralph on May 15, 2009)

Speed up a bit and it will clean up. Might throw a little more weight over there too. I think the biggest thing is a touch more speed though...

K.B.C. 05-15-2009 1:38 PM

you should still be able to surf that. My money says technique.

radikal 05-15-2009 1:43 PM

i had 750 pounds in the rear locker, 750 on the back seat , 500 in the bow all on the left side of the boat. + Factory ballast full except for the right side that was empty for sure. Speed i was about 9.7mph

radikal 05-15-2009 1:44 PM

ohh yeah i cant put more weight it already goes just over the rub rail !! :p

moosemac81 05-15-2009 2:01 PM

Yeah I would try to do about 12 mph. I have a lot of weight in my MB and that what speed we run. Oh and some advice on picking up your rider back through the big rollers! I will sink my boat if I try to turn the boat around.

leaks 05-15-2009 2:03 PM

I run about 1200# in an Enzo sac at approx 12.3 mph.

wakemikey 05-15-2009 2:32 PM

Just a lil too slow 10-12mph. Looks like it'll clean right up and DANG that baby is leanin lol.

gwnkids 05-15-2009 3:26 PM

I run the same weight plus full wedge and a 500# along the seat on the floor. This is my LSV at 11.8 MPH

radikal 05-15-2009 4:17 PM

when i try to go faster it seem like the boat return to a center weight position or even the wake turn to be on the opposition side its kinda weird !!

gwnkids 05-15-2009 4:28 PM

Yea the chine wants to push you opposite of the weight, but that only happens when we slow down to pick up the rider. Does it pull like that with just the normal wakeboard weight?

hymaeringo 05-15-2009 4:35 PM

drive from the passenger seat. i shoot for around 10.6-11 depending on weight and full wedge. remember to put everyone on one side. }

absoluteboarder 05-15-2009 4:57 PM

I agree with ringo.....but dont forget to have the peeps jump back to the other side when turning to pick up the rider.....or you will capsize and sink....lol

dlamont 05-15-2009 5:16 PM

I heard if you buy a Mastercraft it should clean that wake right up.

The first pics are poor surf wakes. We ran a VXL for the 2006 Scioto Wakefest. It seemed like every weight combination was a winner, none as bad as the above.

One thing we didn't use was the wedge. Every post I see about Malibu surf setups use the wedge, though. I'm not a Malibu guy and this was like three years ago, sorry I can't be more help.

ord27 05-15-2009 7:09 PM

I agree with the speed 10.5 to 11.5
weight sounds good
sometimes we wedge, others we don't

also
we only fill the center half full
we get a better wake that way

i also run 4 to 6 40 pound pop bags in the bow, along with factory

the bow bags are evenly distributed

hope that helps

radikal 05-15-2009 11:09 PM

so cliff around a maximum of 240 in the bow but not all the same side , you put it everywhere ... am i correct ?

fullspeed 05-16-2009 12:11 AM

Center half bow None and tons of weight in the one locker. All the adults on that side as well and kids in the bow. Mine is sweet. Try to dig that back side into the water.

trace 05-16-2009 6:20 AM

Like most have said, it looks like the only problem is the speed. The wake is catching up to the boat and closing out.

<!-quote-!>quote:
You should really post this in the wakesurf forum, those guys are SERIOUS about dialing boats in.<!-/quote-!>

Wakesurfing is my main watersport for the last few years, but I find the wakesurfing section here annoying. I never read it, and would probably post any questions I had here too. Just sayin...

loonytik 05-17-2009 7:39 PM

Take the weight out of the front of the boat and move it to the center. Make that thing PLOW!

gwnkids 05-17-2009 7:42 PM

Malibus like nose weight, It lengthens the pocket

hdchapman 05-17-2009 8:10 PM

Needs weight in the bow to clean it up.

Here is what I run and the wake is great. I will try to post pics later.

Bow, center and left MLS full.
750 in surfside locker.
540 on the seat.
350 in the bow.
at least two peeps in the boat
and wedge at about 3/4's

scottymc261 05-18-2009 1:10 PM

Look its simple, get you some fat chics and move them around and adjust speed till it looks good.

longhornfan 05-19-2009 4:03 AM

In my 08 VLX I found out, on accident, that my best wake has been this.

•All tanks, including non-surf side, full except the center. I fill the center 1/2 to 3/4.
•800lb bag in surf side locker.
•All passengers, including driver, on surf side.
•No wedge.

Also, as said several times before, speed between 10.5 and 12.

radikal 05-19-2009 10:24 AM

Kenneth in your case why dont just emptying the opposite side and dont put the extra ballast in the rear locker side it will do the same thing IMO no ?

like this you put a fat sac to neutralise the weight you put the other side .....

hymaeringo 05-19-2009 10:58 AM

look people. more weight along the rail towards the front lenghtens it. if your wake is huge and short add people toward the passenger seat. i never run weight in the bow for surfing, only riding. anyone heard of the shin test? stand on the swim deck till your shins are underwater. just make sure you are not getting water in that vent!!

malibudude 05-19-2009 12:07 PM

Best setup we've used.

Speed: 10.4 mph
Ballast:
~ Rear MLS surf side full
~ Rear MLS off side empty
~ Center MLS full
~ Bow MLS full
Wedge down
750 in rear surf side locker
750 on surf side seat in cabin
500 on surf side in bow

This is a picture from a '06 VLX (Not Mine) but one I've ridden many times.

radikal 05-19-2009 4:45 PM

is it me or malibudude that a nice looking surfwake !?

longhornfan 05-20-2009 2:54 AM

If I left the non surf side empty and just didn't use the sack then the angle or lean would be about the same but I would lose over 1K lb.s in displacement.

Leaving the non surf side empty is really a waste of ballast if you think about it. Obviously you want to lean to your surf side. Sounds like you've got enough weight in additional sacks to make that happen and still be able to use all your tanks.

Think about it like this. If you had your whole left side's seating filled with peeps, would you kick an extra fat dude off the boat or let him sit in the back on the right hand side?

hymaeringo 05-20-2009 11:00 AM

its not about just adding weight to a spot. its taking weight from one side and moving it to the other. so in essence moving the driver from the stbd to port for a regular surfer will not just add 180 pounds but rather subtract 180 from stbd and add 180 to port so essentially 360 pounds is the actually effecting weight. and btw having non surfside filled is only detrimental to your wake.
