Hey guys, I'm looking for some opinion on what some other people might do in this situation.

The boat is a 2003 Centurion avalanche. After an incident we had last season, we needed to have the v-drive replaced. Long story short, after taking it for a lake test, we found that the wrong v-drive was installed. It was a 1-1 ratio and a 1.46-1 was installed.

Not getting in to whose fault or anything, centurion recommends changing the prop from a changing the prop to a 13x17.5(497) from our 13x11(525) to solve the problem instead of swapping out the v-drive.

It seems like if this works, it works right? What is everyones take on this?

Is the people that put in the wrong trans paying
for the prop? If so it sounds good to me.
|
Yes, and most likely replace our spare.

You have a great situation. The reduction drive allows for greater propping options. The hull will also allow a 13.5 prop - and 847.
|
That is a free upgrade. In 2005 Centurion Switched to 1.46-1 because it swings a bigger prop and will better handle the ballast that people where putting in the boats. As long as they change out your props you are ahead of the game!!

Seems like a win-win for you. I know I'd much rather have the gear reduction.
|
Thanks guys, i guess we'll be back on the water in no time
|
You also have a more expensive tranny now and better resale. just swap the prop!!!!
|
Like the others have said Win Win with the gear reduction. It's an "upgrade" compared to the 1:1

(Message edited by xstarrider on April 14, 2009)

Only disadvantages are a bit more weight and noise, and more transmission heat. None of those are severe.

weight sounds like an advantage!
