dabell 09-16-2008 3:03 PM

But again, look at my boat in my profile. <IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0> Kind of matches it.

jsweat 09-16-2008 3:19 PM

that board looks sick and the facts are a pretty cool touch

denverd1 09-16-2008 3:29 PM

Nice! let us know how it rides.

jjakober 09-16-2008 4:02 PM

Forgot to post a Pic of the beveled edge! <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/626863.jpg" alt="1">

Nintzel or Jakober know what the "price" is going to be on the street? <BR> <BR>I am talking about websites, not board shops.

ty540 09-16-2008 6:55 PM

I am very excited to ride this shape.

tversetti 09-16-2008 9:04 PM

I meant more that there are not many boardshops around my area (chicago)

srh00z 09-16-2008 9:13 PM

That board looks nice. I like the beveled edge and the graphics look pretty sweet too.

dabell 09-16-2008 9:15 PM

I have to ask and sorry for my ignorance. <BR> <BR>What is that beveled edge suppose to do? <BR> <BR>J, it's night time and you have had enough time with that board? We want answers and feedback now <IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0>

lsukuntryboy 09-16-2008 9:40 PM

when will this board be available to order?

jjakober 09-16-2008 10:03 PM

Sick, Sick, Sick...Thats what I have to say about the Decade. It's really hard to describe it, all I keep coming up with is SMOOTH. The board is just so right, speed, pop, landings, all the things everyone says is so great about every other board is all I can say about this board. I can tell you how great it is, but thats just me telling why I like it. If you are looking for a new board, then check it out. I think many of you will really like it. <BR> <BR>Keith, <BR>Not sure on the price, but I will find out. <BR> <BR>Tyler, <BR>You like the Coda, I think you will like the Decade. <BR> <BR>David, <BR>The beveled edge makes the board more forgiving and reduces the chances of catching an edge, it also makes the board more durable on sliders. <BR> <BR>Nick, <BR>It is in production now, but I would think the bulk of them are destined for the southern hemisphere, then the states, but I might be wrong.

stephan 09-16-2008 10:07 PM

A beveled edge also makes that section of the board ride higher in the water. Basically a thicker edged center and thinner tip/tail makes the board ride with a more nose up attitude. I'd argue it's more for that reason than catching an edge.

jjakober 09-16-2008 10:16 PM

Thanks Big, whatever it does, it does it right<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" border=0>

ironj32 09-17-2008 6:03 AM

i can't wait!

dabell 09-17-2008 8:04 AM

Thanks. Have a few more questions since it's hard to even demo any O'Brien board here in Sacramento, CA. <BR> <BR>1) How was the pop compared to the Coda? Was it easier/predictable to pop? <BR> <BR>2) When edging, which board responded quicker? Code or Decade? <BR> <BR>3) How long are the molded fins and what size center fin is the Decade using? <BR> <BR>4) Will this board be O'Briens Pro board or Advanced board? If it's taking over the Natural, it might be the Pro level board. <BR> <BR>5)Is it a three stage? What is the rocker size? <BR> <BR>Sorry for all the questions and if they have already been asked. I am sure there might be a few others that might want to know.

ty540 09-17-2008 8:29 AM

I like my Coda 141 a lot, but it's a bit small. I really like my Natural 144, but it tracks just a bit harder than I prefer. I really like the Valhalla 143, but it's not quite as responsive as I would like. <BR> <BR>I'm hoping that this will be a perfect middle ground<IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0>.

jjakober 09-17-2008 8:55 AM

David, <BR> <BR>1) I think the Decade popped more and was more consistent then the Coda. I think the increased width throughout the board really helps it have a consistent pop. <BR> <BR>2) When you say "responded quicker" it depends what you mean. I think the Coda rolls on edge quicker because it is narrower, but once on edge and cutting to the wake they are both very fast, with low drag. I think I would have to ride each board back to back to figure out which one is quicker, and even then I think it would be hard to tell. I think O'Brien makes the quickest 3 stage boards on the market. <BR> <BR>3) The molded in fins are about 10.5 long &amp; 0.7 deep. The center fin is a 0.7" Spine, but I rode it without, and I thought it was perfect. <BR> <BR>4) This is Daniel Watkins new Pro model(10 years with O'Brien). The Natural will move down the line as an advanced board. <BR> <BR>5) The board is 3 stage. Here are the specs: <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/627140.jpg" alt="1">

jjakober 09-17-2008 8:57 AM

Tyler, <BR> <BR>The Decade 144 just might be the perfect board for you<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/wink.gif" border=0>

hyule 09-17-2008 9:09 AM

wow! check that variable center edge in the last pic! nice for butters!

andy_nintzel 09-17-2008 10:03 AM

denverd1 09-17-2008 10:34 AM

nice review JJ. Maybe everyone can get off of obrien's nads when it comes to base features. They're obviosly on to something with fast 3 stage boards.

andy_nintzel 09-17-2008 10:40 AM

Nacho, <BR> <BR>I agree it blows me away how many people think these are just gimics. Far from it! They work, the Delta Base makes the 3 Stage boards Crazy fast. I think the whole industry is moving away from Gimics, thank god!

salsajs3030 09-17-2008 10:55 AM

Dude -that is so cool you rode that board...as of right now they are only hand made and there are only 4 of them in exsistance! <BR>Last night I got my hands on one of the new skates -the new line is SICK and unlike anything on the market right now!! O'Brien is really stepping up!

blindmnkee3 09-17-2008 12:10 PM

I rode with JJ last night and he was pretty psyched on the board. So much so that he got me on it too. I'm a good 250# and my board is an 03 Parks 143. This decade was 139. In the end I will say that I'm definately interested in the 144. It was really hard to describe. It felt locked down but I could break loose with no effort when I wanted to. It was super smooth all around, going into turns and on landings (even for my big butt). It was definately faster than my tank of a board. The pop was a little hard to get used to coming from the Parks. The decade has a nice 3-stage that isn't nearly as abrupt as the Parks. More mellow but still a lot of pop when you hit it correctly. JJ hit it on the head, Smooth. Definately interested in seeing the bigger board. <BR> <BR>Thanks again for coming out Jason, that was treat and definately a good time. Your welcome to come out anytime

noti_dad 09-17-2008 1:02 PM

Damn! Looks like I need to get a new board. Really like the graphics. J, ya think I'll like it better than the Cartel/Coda?

jjakober 09-17-2008 1:36 PM

Adam, <BR> <BR>Thanks for having me out, it was great! <BR> <BR>I posted the pics of last nights butter here: <BR> <BR><a href="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/1/625440.html?1221625389" target="_blank">http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/1/625440.html?1221625389</a> <BR> <BR>It was nice meeting you and your family, <BR>jjakober

brass_monkey 09-17-2008 3:51 PM

Jakober, <BR> <BR>I just rode my new Decade with the Watkins closed toe binders last night. It was unreal! The stance options threw me for a bit of a loop to begin with, but once I put them all the way out, it was sweet. There is Zero toe and heel lift, and my toes didn't get smashed at all. <BR> <BR>The beveled edge is very forgiving when your are buttering around on the wake, but yet quick enough to respond coming onto edge that I didn't feel it lagged at all. <BR> <BR>Did you ride it with the fins or without? I rode it finless, and it felt about as loose as the vallhalla when rode finless. <BR> <BR>Overall, Chris did an amazing job on this shape and I am super stoked to be shredding it this fall.

slaysher 09-17-2008 4:11 PM

glad you dig it ty <IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0> ur the man and good to finally hang with ya at expo. i had a F'n blast <BR> <BR>and woot woot for the DECADE this year, definately one fun ride. .

brass_monkey 09-17-2008 4:35 PM

Jordan.....your graphic made me spin faster and go bigger. Plus I am glad that it is orange, cuz at the end of the day, SAFTEY FIRST! Had a blast last weekend man, it was super fun finally getting together with you. Tell all the guys in the office, Pete, Adam, etc. that I'm glad they all made it back safe.

wakeboardsam 09-17-2008 8:30 PM

who flunked spelling class??? <BR> <BR>I don't think Caffeine is spelled caffine... maybe they are talking about something else...

eargasm 09-17-2008 8:40 PM

Sweet, thanks for the review J. Sounds like its gonna be a great ride. Love my Coda 141 though. It would be tough going up to that 144 might have to try the 139.

joshugan 09-17-2008 8:56 PM

Can't say I love the orange but I'm definitely excited to give this board a whirl!!!!!!!!!

jjakober 09-17-2008 10:06 PM

Ty, <BR>No fins! <BR> <BR>TBAS, <BR>I think you really will like the Decade coming from the Coda. Hopefully we will get together and you can check it out. <BR> <BR>Shawn, <BR>I have been riding the Coda 141 for the last couple of months and as far as the size difference between it and the Decade 139, I really didn't notice any difference. We're only taking about 2cm overall. <BR> <BR>I have ridden the Natural for 3 years and the Coda for a couple of months, and I feel the Decade is a perfect blend between the 2 boards. <BR> <BR>I took it for a spin again tonight, it's very cool<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR>(Message edited by jjakober on September 17, 2008)

J Jakober, how do you think of the Decade compared to the Natural regarding the weight? <BR>I read someplace that Decade had the impact-base which normally would make the board a bit heavier. Also, how are the new closed boots in terms of weight?

lfxstar 09-18-2008 7:27 AM

Nice Witness!!

jjakober 09-18-2008 8:03 AM

Andy, <BR>I didn't notice any difference in the weight of the Decade compared to the Natural. The Decade will be available with and without the impact-base. The board I rode did not have it. I have ridden O'Brien boards with the impact-base in the past and it adds a little weight, but not anything I noticed when riding. I know they have refined the impact-base and it is thinner and lighter then the one they used in the past. <BR> <BR>As far as the boots go, they are very light. I don't have any numbers for you, but for something with so much material, it's amazing how light they are.

eargasm 09-18-2008 11:12 AM

J- I just made some calls back east so Im hoping I'll have one of these to try out soon! Im gonna try the 139 fo sho. Should work out with my knee rehab, with the timing and all.

andy_nintzel 09-18-2008 11:41 AM

According to my sources, D. Watkins says that this is the board he has been waiting for his whole life. He more proud of the this board than any of his other pro models. "it's prefect," DW says. <BR> <BR>As for myself I never thought I would get away from the player to a different design but this board is the shiat!

dooie 09-18-2008 9:42 PM

what are all the facts on the board?

jjakober 09-18-2008 10:16 PM

The board specs are up above a bit^^^^^ <BR> <BR>Let me know what else would you like to know?

lsukuntryboy 09-18-2008 10:56 PM

Just got the 09 price list and catalog today. I am really pleased with a 09 boards that obrien has. Including the new surfboard. And finally some decent looking vest and a ncga vest. way to step it way up obrien.

tversetti 09-18-2008 11:24 PM

price list.....msrp at least?

fleming 09-19-2008 6:15 AM

The board looks amazing. I'm riding the Valhalla and absolutely love it, but all this talk about the Decade has me wondering if I should make a switch. <BR> <BR>In terms of spelling, they should really spell check those facts, it has "coconut" on there as "co****".

andy_nintzel 09-19-2008 7:27 AM

Good Catch Sean I noticed that too-

andy_nintzel 09-19-2008 8:34 AM

YOUR A PUNK! GET TO WORK JAY! who the Hell I am supposed to Geek out on wakeboarding with!?!?!?

lsukuntryboy 09-19-2008 3:36 PM

I believe that 620 was the MSRP on the decade. dont hold me to that cause i dont have it in front of me. when i get home ill will verify that price.

wakeboardsam 09-19-2008 4:13 PM

$620 WTF?

jjakober 09-19-2008 4:30 PM

$620.00 I don't think so. O'Brien has never had an MSRP that high. The Naturals MSRP last year was $480.00 so I would guess the Decade will be somewhere around there.

lsukuntryboy 09-19-2008 5:26 PM

im pretty sure. unless i was lookin at the hyperlite. my list (which i know for sure) was not a lot less than the natural. like i said though. dont hold me to that and i soon as i get home here in a hour or so i will tell you for sure.

lsukuntryboy 09-19-2008 5:28 PM

lsukuntryboy 09-19-2008 8:05 PM

ok. Im lookin at the price sheet now. A Decade blank w/o impact base is 600 even. w/ impact base is 660. add decade bindings. 840 across the board. <BR> <BR>Keep in mind that these are MSRP prices. As i am looking through the price book. I am finding what must be errors. so if this price is a error, i will let yall know.

luke_j 09-19-2008 8:45 PM

honestly looks like the most unexciting new shape of 09

jjakober 09-19-2008 10:46 PM

Luke, <BR>Don't judge a book by it's cover...take it for a spin and then tell us what you think!

ryan_shima1 09-19-2008 11:49 PM

I agree with Jakober. A board doesn't have to have a new, exciting shape to be an incredible ride. I can't wait to try it out!

goride 09-20-2008 12:50 AM

Did the decade feel like it had more pop than the natural? <BR> <BR>I love how easy it is to go into the flats with my natural but get much more pop out of my murray. <BR> <BR>I think this decade will be the perfect blend.

jjakober 09-21-2008 2:09 PM

goride, <BR> <BR>I can't prove it, but it sure felt like it had more pop.

All times are GMT -7. The time now is 1:17 AM.
