How do you store your digital photos?

Currently all mine are on my hard drive and I'm afraid it's starting to slow things down.

Do you guys do cd's/dvd's or keep em all on an external drive or just use up the space you have?
|
DVD x2 if it's something I really want to keep other wise just one.
|
i have mine on an internal hard drive and backed up on a couple external drives.
|
Smart Joe, 1 hard drive for back up definitely is not enough. Haha, I learned the hard way.
|
Phantom, once you have them on DVD do you take em off the hard drive?
|
XServe RAID's and PhotoShelter!

Ouch...how many photos did you lose, Spence?

Over the years, I've collected 7-8 different externals totaling around 2TB of storage. One of them is a 750gb drive solely for photo archiving. The rest hold old video projects and photos, so only one or two are ever plugged in at the same time. When the time comes for a new computer, I might look into getting a RAID setup so I don't have to worry about all these externals.

Redundancy = key.
|
A couple thousand, they were all recovered though. External fell off a table, that was before I went back home and had a chance to back them up. Expensive recovery to say the least.

Only taken the annual tailgate pics of Capital One Bowl games off hard drive. No real need to have those readily available.

I have had my HD crash before, and lost a ton of stuff. Learned my mistake of not backing up my stuff (photos/music/work files, etc). I now have 3 external hard drives, and back stuff up on a regular basis.

For example, on my computer main HD, I have 31,510 photos, which is about 58 gigs. I would kill myself if I lost all of them.

As far as music, I have 26,000 songs, about 111 gigs. A friend has another 350 gigs of music, which I will soon be getting some of.

They are backed up on two separate hard drives now. Just bought a 500 gig for about $130. Cheap investment.

is there a huge difference between.. Iomega 500GB UltraMax Desktop Hard Drive and Time Capsule - 500 GB and LaCie 500GB d2 Extreme Quad HDD besides the prices...
|
Not sure about the differences between those, although they are all known brands. I have 2 of these, and have had no problems at all. Just another option. One of the top brands out there.

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=206409667&adid=17070&dcaid =17070
