Hey you riders over 50... we are trying to get the WWA to make a Super Vets division, like we have at Canyon Lake. If we get enough riders they will make a new division to compete in. It's all about fun. There is a beginner/novice division - how about one for us older guys that started late. Give me your thoughts... even if you are not over 50. <BR> Aloha Joe}
Great idea, why would I want to compete against 30 somethings, like Kringle, Tuna and SteveO
Hey Joe!!! I am getting a Womens Masters 30+ going at Nationals this year. Hope the division is a go for you. <BR> <BR>Come on guys...it's a fun division and there are some pretty awesome 50 + riders out there. Just go and have fun...and support the sport!!
Geri, way to go... Come on guys, don't give up at 50. I have friends that given up at 40!, that sucks. Don't just buy and drive the boat - get behind it and have fun, it will keep you young. Competitions are a lot of fun, people are supportive, and pushes you to ride better & learn more tricks......... Super Veterans - 2008 <BR>Aloha - Joe
At 46 I'm not quite up to the Super Veteran class yet. I'm more like the junior antique class.
Alex... thanks for the Pix of JB's baby. Help me get some intrest in the 50+ division... how about at the 3rd Annual New Jersey Wakefest? <BR>Aloha - Joe
I am all for it (53 right after Xmas). I last competed at the WWA Nat'ls in the Veterans class in 2000 (OWC). I'd like to give it another go while I still can! <BR> <BR>Frank
Right on Frank... Nationals will be in Wisconsin August 6 - 10. Send me an email and I will compile a list asap of possible riders... we will force a division... get some more riders in the 40+ bracket too. Do you ride with Gregg N? He has been to our place in Mexico... ask him about it...Aloha from Huntington Beach
52 here. I'd give it a go. Need more practice behind the boat though. I've been pretty much cable only (OWC) for quite a while.
I did a little digging through the archives. <BR>If this happens Joe and I can resume a rivalry started in Orlando in 2000 (HAHA). Geezers at the Nationals..oh yeah. <BR><a href="http://www.wakeworld.com/News/2000/TripleCrownStop2b.asp" target="_blank">http://www.wakeworld.com/News/2000/TripleCrownStop2b.asp</a> <BR> <BR>Frank
Give me an example of the type of run a competitive 50+ would put out.
anyone?
Yeah, Frank...... that was me in 2000! Lets keep this up and get the WWA to make a new division. <BR>Robot (k9fxr)... to be competitive, you must be able to get out of bed in the morning, that is always nice at our age. Basic w2w jumps, grabs, I have one invert, a competitive run is what you make it. Go out and stick all your basic jumps and take them a bit bigger so that becomes your norm. Just going out on the water we are winners... lots of fun, and makes your everyday riding a bit better. Merry Christmas to all I will be riding over New Years... and trunking it one short run on Jan 1st... will post pictures. <BR>Aloha - from Huntington Beach, CA Joe / 54
how about 40+ grand masters,so I can get in
Moose, I remember you from HB. <BR>40 year olds have the Veterans division... you should come to the Canyon Lake contests... <BR>Aloha Joe Pearson
A 50+ division may interest me.
Randall... I will get a letter going around after the first of the year... all we need to do is get some names together and I can present them to the WWA. This could turn into a real big fun division. <BR>Aloha and Merry Christmas <BR>Joe Pearson... <BR>Who else out there would be interested? How about you dads that have kids riding the contests.....
New Years Resolution: Get off your butts old guys, the shirts say we rule... let's show these kids we still know how to have fun... keep posting here and sending me emails so I can compile a list of names to show the WWA. Happy New Year - Aloha Joe
Joe what is the format or event locations for WWA, is it a series of events throughout many areas or is it a major event 1 or 2 times/yr
Robert... Nationals is open to anyone. It is a two day event for most divisions. Usually if there are 6 riders in our division 4 or 5 go to the finals the next day. We would ride on Wed and Thursday. Doing some local contest where you live is a good tune up. What is your home lake or area? Have a happy new year Aloha - Joe

<i>"Give me an example of the type of run a competitive 50+ would put out."</i> <BR> <BR>If I practiced up I could probably put together... <BR> <BR>BS 360 <BR>TS 360 <BR>Backroll <BR>Scarecrow <BR>Frontflip <BR>plus some 180's <BR> <BR>But to pull it off in a tournament is a different story.<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0>
can't you do raleys too John?
Nope
Wow... John... you should definately go...that is a major trick list. I've got a wrapped toe 3. <BR>Happy New Year...
Joe....happy new year....how does it look for the division? I would ride in it if they took girls <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/biggrin.gif" border=0> and I can only do 180's and a grab! Come on guys....50+ rocks. Get out and ride Nationals!!
180s and a grab or two. Yep. That pretty much sums-up my sorry mid-40s trick list too! <BR> <BR>Happy New Year Joe.
Alex..my point was that even though that is my trick list, I would still ride. There are always people better and worse than yourself. Just go out and do your best and have fun. At my age I am happy I can do what I do and I am way older than you...besides...you have to stick to the younger punks division under 50 <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0>
Alex... just go a little bit higher and spin a little bit more... Geri is out there having a blast... do it while you can. <BR>Have JB get off his new-daddy's butt and teach push you along next season. <BR>Happy New Year. <BR>Joe
My problem is just not being able to get out behind a boat.
John...you live in Orlando and can't get behind a boat????? Go to one of the camps for a couple days or to the cable park. We don't have half the resources here....especially water...and I manage to ride 3 times a week and do trampoline training. I want to get my 3 this summer and been working on the harness for my front and back flips. Joe is right....I have a blast riding...and I miss riding with the guys but I am involved in a new division for the ladies. Even got it approved for Nationals this year. <BR> <BR>Don't give up John....it keeps you young!! Go to Nationals and support the division.
MOB, I keep my annual pass active at the cable and ride at OWC pretty regularly. I even live on a lake and have a Ski Nautique. It's just that for an old guy it's hard to find people who want to ride the boat. I even try to get a couple of friends at the cable to go behind the boat. But they would just as soon ride the cable.
sounds like you are ready to sign up for super vets then!!!! Go for it!!
John, that is crazy... but I know the feeling trying to find riders that want to go out. I only ride every 2 to 3 weeks, and don't get my fix. Find some other local riders that DON'T have their own boat. <BR>Happy New Year.
Come on guys.....the ladies did it....we got a new division of 30 and over for WWA this year to be held at three tournaments. Let's see the super vets represent too!!!
Hey Geri, this sounds great. I'd love to see guys and women over 50 competing. It would provide some perspective rather than constantly watching the 12 to 30 group throwing down tricks I need a replay and a glossary to describe. So happy to see your enthusiasm and skills continuing to grow. You go, girl!
Thanks Les!! Rode a lot last year and started with Jeff and other locals here in a trampoline class at Twist N U in Elsi. It has really helped. Can't wait to take it to the water and get back to camp and riding.
