Larson Boats just announced 5 year warrenty periods for their boats- including gel coat blistering. When will the tournament boat manufactures catch-up? http://larsonboats.com/warranty/default.asp

when boat sales slow down and they are forced to do something to entice customers.

Check out Supras:
http://www.supraboats.com/news.php?view=article&news_id=61

5 years on everything!!! The best in the industry.

alans 11-28-2007 10:59 AM

Nope, MB has the best in the industry

Hull Lifetime (transferable)
Deck Lifetime (transferable)
Gel Coat 3 years
Composite Swim Step 5 years
Upholstery 5 years
Carpet 5 years
Exhaust System Lifetime
Engine/Drivetrain 3 years
Anodized Hardware Lifetime
Instruments Lifetime
Blister Free 5 years

Interesting how on that page Supra doesn't explain what exactly is covered under their "limited lifetime" hull warranty. It would be interesting to see how they warranty gelcoat cracks and for how long.

waterfreak 11-28-2007 12:48 PM

According to Boat/US magazine Structural warranties cover only the parts actually named. If the warranty says the hull is guaranteed, this means that only the fiberglass hull shell is covered, not the stringers or structures that reinforce it from within. If the hull cracks because of a stringer defect, this would not be a covered loss.

It specifically has to state gel coat blister coverage otherwise it is not as well as any other component.

Gelcoat is part of the 5 years.

Alan, how can you say MB is better:

Hull Lifetime (transferable) - same as Supra
Deck Lifetime (transferable) -Same As Supra
Gel Coat 3 years - 5 years for Supra
Composite Swim Step 5 years - lifetime for Supra
Upholstery 5 years - same as Supra
Carpet 5 years -same as Supra
Exhaust System Lifetime - 5 Years from Supra
Engine/Drivetrain 3 years - 5 Years from Supra
Anodized Hardware Lifetime - same as Supra
Instruments Lifetime - Same as Supra
Blister Free 5 years - Same as Supra (this is the same as gelcoat as long as the customer treats their boat right)

(Message edited by Jon A on November 28, 2007)

How does Malibu, MC, and Epic compare?

curtisco24 11-29-2007 6:05 AM

malibu is 3 on upholstry, gelcoat is one but they make many exceptions and don't have a lot of issues, everything else is about the same. MC - from my experience is "out the door warranty" good luck with that, Epic don't know.

Mastercraft warranty is as follows.....deck, hull liner and stringers (structural) are warrantied for as long as the original purchaser owns the boat. Gel coat is case by case basis. All other components is one year including trailer. Engine standard 3 year.

innov8 11-29-2007 9:42 AM

Nautiques have been five years, long before Supra or Larson.

jon_a 11-29-2007 9:57 AM

innov8,

Are you sure about that? 5 years on everything including engine and trailer? From PCM's website it says 3 years. I can't find any info about Nautique's trailers.

innov8 11-29-2007 10:32 AM

Your correct John its 3 yrs on motor and gel.

AN INDUSTRY-EXCLUSIVE. THE 5-YEAR TRANSFERABLE WARRANTY

WE GO TO GREAT LENGTHS TO GUARANTEE OUR BOATS

World-class towboats of this quality deserve the worlds best warranty. Nautiques by Correct Craft feature a 5-Year Transferable Warranty, the best in the marine industry. It includes free parts and labor on all qualified repairs for 5 years. There is no substitute for quality, and we stand behind the quality of our boats like no other manufacturer can. Because our goal is nothing less than your complete satisfaction and experience.

Limited Lifetime Warranty

As the original purchaser of a Nautique, you are covered by a limited lifetime warranty against structural defects in the hull, deck and stringer system as originally manufactured by Correct Craft. Whether you own your boat for one year or for 20 years, you can rest assured that Correct Craft commits to repair your boat in the unlikely event of a structural failure. Subsequent buyers have the option to purchase the remaining lifetime warranty if they purchase the boat within five years of the date of delivery to the original purchaser.

Five-Year Transferable Parts Warranty

Correct Craft goes to great lengths to ensure the components we install from other manufacturers live up to our standards. Accordingly, we are comfortable offering a transferable five-year Parts Warranty on all factory installed components (excluding gelcoat and engine). The original purchaser has the benefit of free labor and parts for the first five years of ownership. If, during the first five years from the date of delivery, the original purchaser sells the boat, the subsequent purchaser can purchase a Parts Warranty (not labor) for the remainder of the five-year period.

waterfreak 11-29-2007 10:42 AM

I see no actual gel coat coverage at all for CC. Is this correct?

woreout 11-29-2007 10:45 AM

In 2003 CC went to 5 years on everything. PCM raised hell bout that and in 2004 the engine was back at 3 years warranty.

buguru 11-29-2007 2:22 PM

Some people need to read the fine print on that Supra 5 year. The majority of the warranty is thru a 3rd party Insurance Company. Look for a cost on that 5 year also. Just FYI~

jon_a 11-29-2007 2:50 PM

5 year is standard on the Supra, no extra cost. Whether it is through a 3rd party or not (some of it is, some isn't), Supra still has it.
