ya know im really surprised that i havent ever seen pics on here of people who havent turned on their blower before they started the engine. basically it ends up lookin like the pic above
Yo Torey I live in Bismarck and always ride in the river or the Heart if its deep and make some trips to tschida.. what boat are you guys on usually..
Kevin, have you actually ever seen that happen? I truthfully don't use the blower most of the time, and no one I ride with ever does ever. Are we truly being 'hazardous'?
Six more hours until the tide rolls back in!!
last summer 2 of my friends were liquored up and forgot to turn on the blowers after fueling up and blew the boat in half and it launched the 2 of them out of the boat
hey carter. ya same here usually on the river, we wakeskate in the heart from time to time and i take a few trips to tschida. wut do u usually ride behind?
well.. either a white bayliner with a pylon, a red centurion, or we wakeskate behind a waverunner
this boat just happens to at the end of the bay where we do our d-ups. it's looked like this on three separate occassions. i think he needs a bilge in that thing, lol. tons of rain is what caused it.

Ya I cant say that I have ever used my blower. My first tige had alittle over 600 hours when we sold it and I can not recall one time that I used the blower. Even with the last 2 malibus we had, we never used the blower.
You guys that don't use the blower are asking for some serious injury. It only takes an extra 1 minute everytime you boat and it could save you your life and your boats life. Do your research. It's just plain stupid not to use it.
They put a blower in the rear compartment for a reason! Use it or at least open your rear hatch before starting. 99.9% of the time you will be OK without it, but it only takes one time and it isn't pretty.

Jay - looks like your boat neighbor also needs to learn how to back his boat into the dock.
Jay, you say that that is where you guys do double ups... maybe its not rainwater that caused that?
i was going to say the same thing. double up maybe??
i know it's not...i wasn't out doing d-ups (or any boating for that matter) all night long in the pouring rain. now, did we continue to ride there? yes, the thing was already under water. it sat there for like two or three days like that.
yeah actually i have seen what happens, and the people died

Always wear your lanyard:

olan. thats pretty much how it is on the river here. people dont know it and run themself on a sandbar. sometimes i make a profit off those idiots. they give me a few extra bucks for helping them off and pointing them in the right direction.
I can't believe you guys don't use your blower. I've gone maybe once without using it, and I'm 16. I'd expect all you adults to be smart enough to use it.
LOL I have to admit, I use my blower maybe 20% of the time.
Matt give me some details...what happened?
Sorry the pics are small... that's how i originally got them

http://www.lakepowellvacations.com/Odyssey.htm

This one happened in Lake Powell i think back in 2004 when they first started renting out their luxury 75' "oddesey" house boats (SEE LINK ABOVE). I THINK the crew was out in a storm and something happened where it was taking on water. From what i remember, the renters just kinda abandoned it next to the lake side. Also i want to think that i heard that the renters were mostly girls from like a magazine shoot or something

It has been such a long time i dont think i can trust my memmory of the story, especially since i heard it from word of mouth from my employer back at Powell
Man, if they ever drain Lake Powell (heaven forbid) do you have any idea how much junk they will find? People think they can handle a houseboat even though they sometimes have no experience on any boat, let alone a houseboat. They'll rent those things to anyone and the storms out there are unbelievable. In 20-30 minutes the weather can go from blue skies to 50 mph winds and lightning. Scary. Sad to say, but my parents put a houseboat at the bottom of the lake back in the day. The haven't rented a boat there since.
I worked at powell for that one. NO lie, it was rented to a company who shot a porn on it. I cant rember what happened, but I think ignorance was a big problem. The porn guys tied it up to the antelope point dock and split. The crew at antelope had to cut it loose when it started to go over and was pulling the docks with it. when aramark came to salvage, there were cameras and equipment, toys and drugs. Thats a MASSIVE security deposit.

ColoradoWakeAlliance~

SOOO, is there a chance we bumped into each other since we both worked at Powell? I had just barely quit to go back to college when this happened so i wasnt there for the actual event. It was nice to hear a story refresher... that about rings the remainder of my memory bell.

SOOoooo many weired things happen at powell every year i cant keep all the stories straight. (especially since i was born and raised in page too) I was thinking it was a porn shoot, but then i couldnt remember if i was confusing for the viagra (or some other sex drug) ad shoot that i think happened the same year.

I worked as a porter at boat rentals that year. I hope whoever did the "portering" for that boat got a nice tip... probably Zoltan or Atila (Transylvania dudes) if you knew them
Jason, the story I heard (dunno if it's true?) is the driver was going very fast and turned a corner. When he turned the boat hopped and he came out, and since he wasn't wearing a lanyard the boat kept on going until it hit the tree.

One more for you. This is in the inlet that we use all the time, Jupiter inlet. On a bad day you should avoid this inlet. These guys apparently had a lapse of judgement, or were just stupid. A large yacht behind them knew they were going to sink so one of the mates grabbed a camera and took this picture. Shortly after this picture the boat sank. Not one of them is wearing a life jacket, it's a miracle they all survived. Boats sink here all the time; idiots and water don't mix well.

(Message edited by nowake on October 21, 2007)
